Zavan Sacket Jr, son of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G on 11 August 1781.^1,2 He died aged 76 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, on 6 December 1857¹ and was buried at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County^G.⁴ He married in Crawford County^G on 18 March 1819, Emily Weller, daughter of Jonathan Weller and Lovina Leonard.^1,3 Emily was born in Huntington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G, on 27 April 1802.⁵ She died aged 50 on 15 May 1852 and was buried at Greendale Cemetery^G.⁶ As far as is known there were no children of the marriage.
     Zavan was assessed for State and Town taxes in Huntington^G in 1811.⁷ He removed from Massachusetts to Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, in the late 1810s, probably at the same time as his brother Rolin and their father, and was there by 1819 when he married.
     Zavan bought several lots of land in Meadville^G on 16 January 1828. (Both Zavans, father and son, were in Meadville by this date. The purchaser is likely to have been the son as he was listed as a householder there for the first time in 1830.)⁸
     Zavan was listed in the census in 1830 and 1840 as a householder in Meadville^G.^9,10
     In 1850 he was living in Meadville^G and was recorded as Zavan Sacket, aged 63 and born in Massachusetts. His wife Emily, 46, was living with him.¹¹

Isaac Sackett, farmer, son of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G on 26 February 1783.^1,2 He died aged 86 in Wayne, Ashtabula County, Ohio^G, on 29 March 1869^1,3 and was buried at Center Cemetery, Wayne^G.^4,5 He married in 1833, Mercy Mansfield.¹ Mercy was born in Vermont^G on 3 March 1794.^1,2,6 She died aged 94 in Wayne^G on 26 March 1888^6,7 and was buried at Center Cemetery^G.⁴
     Isaac removed from Massachusetts to Mead, Pennsylvania, either with his father and brother Rolin in the late 1810s or with others of his siblings in the 1820s.
     Isaac was listed in the 1830 census as a householder in Mead, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G.⁸
     Isaac moved farther west again in the 1830s and in 1840 he was a householder in Andover, Ashtabula County, Ohio^G.⁹
     In 1850 Isaac was living in Orwell, Ashtabula County^G, and was recorded in the census as Isaac Sacket, a farmer, aged 66 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Mercy, 56, and their children, Zaven, 16, Isaac, 13, and Caroline, aged nine.¹⁰
     In 1860 he was living in Orwell^G and was recorded as I Sackett, a farmer, aged 77. Living with him were his wife Mercy, 66, and their daughter Mary, 18, with her husband John Sage, and their one-year-old daughter Carrie.¹¹
     Isaac made his will in Wayne^G on 28 September 1868. He left the use of his real estate to his son Zavan during the lifetime of Isaac's widow (unnamed in the will), subject to her maintenance. After her death, the estate was to go to Zavan's son Charles.
     In 1870 Isaac's widow Mercy, aged 76, was living in Wayne^G, with her son Zaven and his family.¹² She was also recorded there in 1880, aged 86.¹³

The Sacketts of America Mercy's obituary

Rolin Sackett, farmer, son of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G in the early 1780s.^1,2,3 He died aged about 80 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, on 22 February 1863.⁴ He married first in Montgomery, Hampden County^G, on 11 March 1807, Lovina Edson, daughter of James Edson and Lovina ___.^5,6 Lovina Edson was born in Springfield, Hampden County^G, on 12 April 1786.⁷ She died aged 37 in Mead, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, on 15 June 1824.⁸ He married second in Meadville^G about 1828, Pamelia (___) Chamberlin, widow of Charles Chamberlin. Pamelia was born in New York State^G about 1801.³ Rolin was father to a total of 17 children, nine by Lovina, and eight by Pamelia.
     Rolin was listed in the 1810 census as a householder in Norwich (later Huntington), Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G.⁹
     He was assessed for State and Town taxes in Huntington^G in 1811.¹⁰
     He removed from Massachusetts to Pennsylvania sometime between 1811 and 1820, probably at the same time as his father Zavan.
     Rolin was listed in the 1820 census as a householder in Mead, Crawford County^G.¹¹ In 1830 he was a householder in Great Valley, Cattaraugus County, New York State^G.¹² He had at that date recently married in New York State his second wife, Pamelia, and had been involved with her in winding up the estate of her late husband Charles.
     In 1840 Rolin was again in Mead, Crawford County^G.¹³
     In 1850 Rolin was living in Mead Township^G and was recorded in the census as Rowland Sackett, a farmer, aged 65 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his second wife Pamelia, aged 49 and born in New York, and their children, Charles, 20, Leonard, 18, Zavan, 16, Louisa, 14, Mary, 12, Henry, 10, and John, aged six.¹⁴
     In 1860 he was living in Meadville^G and was recorded as Rowland Sacket, a farmer, aged 80. Living with him were his wife Pamelia, 59, and their children, Charles, 30, Leonard, 28, Eliza, 24, Henry, 20, and John, aged 16.¹⁵
     Following Rolin's death in February 1863, his widow Pamelia suffered the further loss of her son John who died ten days later from disease contracted while serving in the Army during the Civil War. Pamelia applied for a Civil War mother's pension, citing also her need to support her dependent children, Leonard, then 31, and Eliza, 27, both described as non compos mentis. The application was supported in the Crawford County Court of Common Pleas by Rolin's nephew and near neighbor, Edward Sackett.
     In 1880, Pamelia was living in Mead^G and was enumerated as Permelia Sackett, a widow, aged 46 (sic: the enumerator probably intended 76). Living with her were her unmarried children, Rolin, 50, Leonard, 48, and Dolla (Eliza), aged 44.¹⁶

James Sacket, farmer, son of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G in 1786.¹ He died aged about 76 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, on 11 January 1862¹ and was buried at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville^G.^3,4 He married about 1819, probably in Huntington, Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G, Almena Wright, daughter of Gideon Wright and Sabrina Sheldon.² Almena was born in Huntington^G on 23 June 1798.⁵ She died aged 92 on 14 May 1891⁶ and was buried at Prairieville Cemetery, Barry County, Michigan^G.^3,7,8
     James was assessed for State and Town taxes in Huntington^G in 1811, 1813, and 1815.⁹
     James was listed in the 1820 census as a householder in Norwich (later Huntington), Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G.¹⁰
     James removed in the 1820s from Massachusetts to Mead, Pennsylvania, where his father Zavan and brother Rolin were already established.
     James was listed in the census in 1830 and 1840 as a householder in Mead, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G.^11,12
     It would appear that James and Almena adopted James's brother Jabez's daughter Ann after Ann's mother died just two weeks after the birth in January 1832.
     In 1850 James was living in Mead^G and was recorded in the census as James Sackett, a farmer, aged 62 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Almina, 52, and their [adopted] daughter Ann, aged 18 [described below as "daughter"]. Also in the household was James's brother Joseph, 50, a farmer.¹³
     In 1860 he was living in Meadville^G and was recorded as James Sacket, a farmer, aged 72. Living with him were his wife Almena, 62, and their daughter Anna, 28.¹⁴
     After James's death, Almena removed with her daughter Anna to Prairieville, Michigan, where James's nephew Jabez Sackett was already established.
     In 1870 Almena was living in Prairieville, Barry County, Michigan^G, and was recorded as Almena Sacket, aged 72. Her unmarried daughter Anna, 38, was living with her.¹⁵
     In 1880 she was living in Prairieville^G and was recorded as Almina Sacket, a widow, head of household, aged 81. Her daughter Ann, 46, was living with her.¹⁶ [Earlier census records do not state relationships but, in 1880, Ann was listed as "daughter".]

Eliza Sackett, daughter of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G about 1804.¹ She died aged 46 in Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, on 5 October 1850¹ and was buried at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville, Crawford County^G.^2,3,4 She was unmarried.
     In 1850 Eliza was living in Mead^G in the household of her brother Jabez and sister-in-law Emily, and was recorded in the census as Eliza Sackett, aged 47 and born in Massachusetts.⁵

Emily Sacket, daughter of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born presumably in Massachusetts^G in the 1790s.¹
     Emily Sacket is listed in The Sacketts of America as a daughter of Zavan Sacket and Abigail Bills. This is the only record found. She may have been a child who died without record, or the entry may have been in error. A further possibility is that she may have been the same as Elizabeth "Betsey" Sackett (1793–1868), whose parents have not otherwise been identified.

Ann Sacket, daughter of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born presumably in Massachusetts^G in the 1790s.¹

Joseph Sackett, son of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G on 7 March 1800.^1,2,3 He died aged 80 in Wayne, Ashtabula County, Ohio^G, on 3 February 1881 and was buried at Center Cemetery, Wayne^G.^3,4 He was unmarried.
     Joseph removed from Massachusetts to Mead, Pennsylvania, perhaps with his father and brother Rolin in the late 1810s or with others of his siblings in the 1820s.
     In 1850 Joseph was living in Mead, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, in the household of his brother James and sister-in-law Almina, and was recorded in the census as Joseph Sackett, a farmer, aged 50 and born in Massachusetts.⁵
     In 1860 he was living in Mead^G in the household of his nephew Edward B R Sacket, and was recorded as Joseph Sacket, a farmer, aged 60.⁶
     In 1870 he was living in Mead^G in the household of his nephew Edward Sacket, and was recorded as Joseph Sacket, aged 70.⁷
     Joseph removed late in life from Mead to Wayne, Ohio, where his late brother Isaac had settled.
     In 1880 he was living in Wayne, Ashtabula County, Ohio^G, in the household of his nephew Zaven Sackett (brother Isaac's son), and was recorded as Joseph Sackett, aged 80.⁸

Jabez B Sackett, farmer, son of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born in Massachusetts^G on 14 December 1788.^1,2,3 He died aged 81 in Meadville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, on 17 November 1870^1,4 and was buried at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville^G.^8,9 He married first in Norwich (later Huntington), Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G, on 4 July 1815, Anna Dewey, daughter of Levi Dewey and Mary Scott.^1,4,5,6 Anna was born in Norwich^G on 2 January 1794.^4,10 She died aged 37 in Meadville^G on 14 January 1832⁴ and was buried at Greendale Cemetery^G.¹¹ He married second in Trumbull County, Ohio^G, on 15 March 1833, Emily E Eells, daughter of Ozias Eells and Phebe Ely.⁷ Emily was born in Connecticut^G on 21 December 1796¹² and baptized at Barkhamsted, Litchfield County, Connecticut^G, on 5 February 1797.¹³ She died aged 89 in Crawford County^G on 23 December 1885 and was buried at Greendale Cemetery, Meadville^G.^14,15
     Jabez was assessed for State and Town taxes in Huntington (formerly Norwich)^G in 1813 and 1815.¹⁶
     He was listed in the 1820 census as a householder in Huntington^G.¹⁷
     Jabez removed with his family from Massachusetts to Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G, in 1824.¹⁸ He was listed in the census in 1830 and 1840 as a householder in Mead, Crawford County, Pennsylvania^G.^19,20
     Jabez was ordained as an elder of the Central Presbyterian Church, Meadville^G, in 1830 and installed in 1839.⁹
     Following the death of Jabez's first wife Ann just two weeks after the birth in January 1832 of their daughter Ann, it would appear that the daughter was adopted by Jabez's brother James and his wife Almena.
     In 1850 Jabez was living in Mead, Crawford County^G, and was recorded in the census as Jabez B Sackett, a farmer, aged 61 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his second wife, Emily, 52, their son Ozias, 13, Jabez's children from his first marriage, Jabez (Jr), 23, and Dewey, 21, and Jabez's siblings, Eliza, 47, and Royal, 52.²¹
     In 1860 he was living in Meadville, Crawford County^G, and was recorded as Jabes B Sacket, a farmer, aged 71. Living with him were his wife Emily, 63, his son Dewey, 31, and Dewey's wife Sarah, 30, with their daughter Mary, aged one month, and Jabez's brother Royal, 64.²²
     Jabez made his will in Mead^G on 9 May 1862, naming as beneficiaries his wife Emily and children, EBR, Charles D, James W, Jabez B, L Dewey, and Ann A Sacket. He left land or equivalent cash amounts to each of his sons, with his son Levi Dewey taking over the home farm, with responsibility for the lifetime care of his father, stepmother Emily, and uncle Royal. Jabez also requested that suitable monuments be placed on the graves of his parents, sisters Dolly and Eliza, his first wife, and his son Ozias. The will was proved on 3 January 1871.
     In 1870 he was living in Mead, Crawford County^G, and was recorded as Jabez B Sacket, works on farm, aged 81. Living with him were his wife Emily, 73, and brother Royal Sacket, 74. They were living on the family farm, now run by Jabez's son Levi Dewey in accordance with Jabez's will.²³
     In 1880 Jabez's widow Emily was living in Mead^G in the household of her son Dewey and daughter-in-law Mary, and was recorded in the census as Emely Sackett, aged 83.²⁴

Abigail Sackett, daughter of Zavan Sacket Sr and Abigail Bills, was born at Norwich Bridge, Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G, on 17 December 1790.^1,2,3,4 She died aged 92 in Huntington, Hampshire County^G, on 26 December 1882^2,5 and was buried at Norwich Bridge Cemetery, Huntington^G.⁹ She married in Norwich (later Huntington)^G on 30 April 1816, Charles Collins, son of Daniel Collins.^1,6,7,8 Charles was born in Worthington, Hampshire County^G, on 30 December 1792.^9,10 He died aged 32 in Chester, Hampden County, Massachusetts^G, on 23 September 1825¹¹ and was buried at Norwich Bridge Cemetery^G.⁹
     Abigail's husband Charles, styled an Esquire, was a man of means. By his will, made just a week before he died of a fever, he left $3,800 to be divided among his children when they reached 21. He was aware that Abigail was pregnant with their sixth child. He left the remainder of his estate, including his lands, to Abigail, with no restriction as to her remarriage.
     Abigail did not remarry, bringing up her children, the eldest of whom was eight at the time of Charles's death, and remaining a widow for 57 years.
     In 1850 Abigail was living in Chester^G and was recorded in the census as Abigal Collins, aged 56. Her daughter Frances and son-in-law Anson Gleason were living with her.¹²
     In 1870 she was living in Huntington^G and was recorded as Abigail Collins, aged 75. Her daughter Frances Gleason, 40, and grandson Howard Gleason, 14, were living with her.¹³
     In 1880 she was living in Huntington^G and was recorded as Abigail Collins, head of household, aged 89. Her daughter Frances Gleason, 54, and grandson Howard Gleason, 24, were living with her. There was also a female servant in the household.¹⁴

Electa Sacket, daughter of Justus Sacket and Naomi Weller, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts^G, on 13 September 1772^1,2,3 and baptized at the Church of Christ, Westfield^G, on 25 October 1772.⁴ No further record has been found. She may have died young.

Eliakim Sacket, son of Justus Sacket and Naomi Weller, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts^G, on 30 May 1775^1,2,3 and baptized at the Church of Christ, Westfield^G, on 4 June 1775.⁴ He died aged 76 in Westfield^G on 13 July 1851.^3,5 He married in Westfield^G on 5 September 1799, Anna Edwards.^3,6,7,8 She was born in Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts^G, about 1774.⁹ She died aged 79 in Westfield^G on 27 June 1853.^10,11
     Eliakim was listed in the census in 1800, 1810, and 1820 as a householder in Westfield^G.^12,13,14 In 1840 he was a householder in Northampton^G.¹⁵
     In 1850 Eliakim was living at the Poor House, Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts^G, and was recorded in the census as Eloakim Sacket, a laborer, aged 75, and born in Massachusetts. Living with him was his wife Anna, aged 75, also born in Massachusetts.¹⁶

Justus Sacket, son of Justus Sacket and Naomi Weller, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, Massachusetts^G, on 14 June 1777^1,2,3,4 and baptized at the Church of Christ, Westfield^G, in July 1777.⁵ (He was Justus Sacket in the family bible, Justice Sackett on his gravestone.) He died aged 53 in Martinsburg, Lewis County, New York State^G, on 28 February 1831^6,7 and was buried at Hogsback Cemetery, Martinsburg^G.^9,10 He married in Martinsburg^G on 7 March 1805, Fanny Faxon, daughter of Thomas Faxon and Rachel Davis.⁸ Fanny was born in Conway, Franklin County, Massachusetts^G, on 15 October 1778.^11,12 She died aged 89 in Marshall, Calhoun County, Michigan^G, on 12 October 1868.¹²
     Justus settled in Martinsburg, Lewis County^G, in 1802 or 1803.¹³ He was listed in the census in 1810 as a householder in Lewis County and in 1820 and 1830 as a householder in Martinsburg, Lewis County^G.^14,15,16
