Lucinda was born in New York StateG on 17 December 1826.4 She died aged 29 in Naples, Ontario County, New York StateG, on 23 October 1856.5 Orlin married second in Goodhue County, MinnesotaG, in 1860, Ann Elizabeth Hanscom.3 Ann was born in Levant, MaineG, on 29 December 1838.6 She died aged 51 in Nashville Center, Martin County, MinnesotaG, on 23 January 1890.3,7
In 1850 Orlin was living in Naples, Ontario County, New York StateG, and was recorded in the census as Orlen Sackett, a laborer, aged 26, and born in New York State. Living with him were his wife Lucinda, aged 23, and born in NY, and their children, Lucy, 4, and George, aged one. Also in the household was Betsey Lyon, aged 16.8
In 1860 he was living at Roscoe, Goodhue County, MinnesotaG, and was recorded as Alden Sackett, a farmer, aged 33, and born in New York. Living with him were his children, George, 11, and Sarah, aged eight.9
Orlin registered for the Civil War draft in 1863, described as a farmer of RoscoeG.10
In 1870 he was living at RoscoeG and was recorded as Orlin Sackett, a farmer, aged 46, and born in New York. Living with him were his second wife Ann, aged 32, and born in Maine, Orlin's son George, 20, by his first wife Lucinda, and Orlin and Ann's children, Edward, 8, Emina, 6, and twins Elin and Elton, aged one.11

Orlin made his will at Winnebago, Faribault County, MinnesotaG, on 4 August 1905. He left shares in his land to his children, Edward, Mina, Ella, and Emma, and cancelled a debt owing by his son Elton. Edward was to inherit 30 acres of land in Martin County, and the remainder of his land, comprising 80 acres, was to go to his daughters, Mina, Ella, and Emma. Orlin did not name in the will his eldest son George, of his first marriage, although his name was added as one of the heirs when the executors applied for probate. It may be that George had received the equivalent of his inheritance earlier, although his not being named at all may otherwise indicate that he was deliberately disinherited.13
