Richard Thomas Sackett, a general labourer, of Stratford, Essex, son of Richard Henry Sackett and Sarah Ann Kemp, was born in Canterbury, Kent^G, about 1834¹ and baptized at St Paul's Church, Canterbury^G, on 23 October 1836.² He died aged 74 in West Ham, Essex^G, in 1907³ and was buried at West Ham Cemetery^G on 22 June 1907.⁶ He married at St Mary the Virgin, Plaistow, Essex^G, on 27 July 1862, Ann Elizabeth Reed, daughter of Edmund Reed.^4,5 Ann was born in Stratford, Essex^G, about 1836.⁷ She died aged 76 in West Ham^G in 1912⁸ and was buried at West Ham Cemetery^G on 28 September 1912.⁹
     In 1841 Richard was living at Deal, Kent^G, and was recorded in the census as Richard Sackett, aged 6 and born in Kent, in the household of Richard Sackett.¹⁰
     In 1851 he was living at 13 Mulberry Tree Row, Bromley St Leonard, Poplar, Middlesex^G, in the household of a licensed victualler, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a potman, aged 16 and born in Canterbury.¹¹
     In 1861 he was living at 6 Lower Mary Street, Bromley, Poplar^G, in the household of Thomas Buttler, a labourer, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a labourer, unmarried, aged 22 and born in Stratford. Lodging in the same household was John Sackett, 20, also a labourer.^12,13
     In 1871 he was living at 11 Carpenter Road, Stratford, West Ham, Essex^G, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a labourer at the chemical works, married, aged 36 and born in Canterbury. Living with him were his wife Ann, 35, and children, Hannah, 9, Richard, 6, and Mary, aged two. The family were lodging in the household of George Gallway. The relationships of the children to the head of family were left blank on the census return.¹⁴
     In 1881 Richard was living at 113 Livingstone Road, West Ham, Essex^G, and was recorded in the census as Richard Sackett, a general labourer, head of household, married, aged 48, and born in Canterbury. Living with him were his wife Ann, aged 46, and born in Stratford, and their children, Richard, 17, Mary, 12, Matilda, 10, Henry, 7, John, 5, and Emily, aged two.¹⁵
     In 1891 he was living at 113 Major Road, Stratford, Essex^G, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a general labourer (employed), head of household, married, aged 55, and born in Canterbury. Living with him were his wife Ann, aged 54, and born in Stratford, and their children, Henry, 18, Emily, 14, and Edward, aged nine. Also in the household were lodgers Joseph and Mary Corderey.¹⁶
     In 1901 he was living at 26 Major Road, West Ham^G, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a general labourer, head of household, married, aged 69, and born in Dover, Kent. Living with him were his wife Ann, aged 75, and born in Stratford, and their unmarried sons, Henry, 29, and John, aged 26.¹⁷

John Kemp Sackett, son of Richard Henry Sackett and Sarah Ann Kemp, was born in Eastry, Kent^G, in 1839¹ and baptized at St Leonard's Church, Deal, Kent^G, on 12 May 1839.² He died aged 41 in West Ham, Essex^G, in 1880.³ He married at St James the Great, Bethnal Green, Middlesex^G, on 1 February 1870, Mary Ann Doe, daughter of William Doe.⁴ She was probably the Mary Doe born in 1847 in the Romford registration district, Essex^G.⁵ She was also probably the Mary Sackett who died in West Ham, Essex^G, in 1912.⁶
     In 1841 John was living at Deal, Kent^G, in the household of his parents Richard and Sarah, and was recorded in the census as John Sackett, aged three and born in Kent.⁷
     In 1851 he was living at 118 Snargate Street, Dover, Kent^G, in the household of his grandfather, Richard Sackett, and was recorded as John Sackett, a scholar, aged 12 and born in Dover.⁸
     In 1861 he was living at 6 Lower Mary Street, Bromley, Poplar, Middlesex^G, in the household of Thomas Buttler, a labourer, and was recorded as John Sackett, a labourer, unmarried, aged 20 and born in Stratford. Lodging in the same household was Richard Sackett, 22, also a labourer.⁹
     In 1871 he was living at Union Street, Stratford, West Ham, Essex^G, and was recorded as John Sackett, a labourer, head of household, married, aged 30 and born in Deal, Kent. Living with him were his wife Mary, 23, and children, Sarah, 5, and Jane, aged three.¹⁰
     In 1881 John's widow Mary was living at 1 Park Place, Stratford, West Ham, Essex^G, and was recorded in the census as Mary Sackett, a laundress, head of household, a widow, aged 34 and born in Havering, Essex. Living with her were her children, Sarah, 14, Mary Jane, 13, Thomas, 9, Alfred, 7, Emily, 5, and Ellen, aged three.¹¹
     In 1891 she was living at 14 Fifth Avenue, Little Ilford, Essex^G, in the household of John Parker, and was recorded as Mary Ann Sackett, a widow aged 45. Her son Robert, 11, was living with her.¹²
     In 1901 she was living at 36 Bessborough Road, East Ham, Essex^G, in the household of her daughter Mary and son-in-law Thomas Wood. She was a laundress, aged 52.¹³

Mary Jane Sackett, daughter of Richard Henry Sackett and Sarah Ann Kemp, was born in Eastry, Kent^G, in 1843¹ and baptized at St Leonard's Church, Deal, Kent^G, on 17 September 1843.² Mary had a son, Frederick William, born in Eastry in 1864. It was probably this Mary Sackett who married in Eastry, Kent^G, in 1866, William Brooksby.^3,4
     In 1861 Mary was living at 200 Lower Street, Deal, Kent^G, and was recorded in the census as Mary J Sackett, a servant in the household of John Noble, a fruiterer, and his wife Elizabeth. Mary was unmarried, aged 19, and born in Deal, Kent.⁵
     In 1881 Mary was living at 188 Middle Street, Deal, Kent^G, in the household of her husband William, a pork butcher, aged 41, and was recorded in the census as Mary A Brooksby, aged 39 and born in Canterbury, Kent. Living with them were their children, Mary A (14), and Gail H (12), both born in Deal.⁶

William Sackett, gas works foreman, son of Richard Henry Sackett and Sarah Ann Kemp, was born in Deal, Kent^G, in 1847^1,2 and died aged 71 in Canterbury, Kent^G, in 1918.³ He married at St Mildred, Canterbury, Kent^G, on 27 July 1867, Rachel Link.^4,5 Rachel was born in Chartham, Kent^G, about 1843⁶ and died aged 81 in Canterbury^G in 1924.⁷
     In 1871 William was living at 4 Gas Row, Canterbury^G, and was recorded in the census as William Sackett, an agricultural labourer, head of household, married, aged 26, and born in Deal. Living with him were his wife Rachel, aged 26, and born in Chartham, Kent, and their children, William, 7, Mary Ann, 4, and Louisa, aged two.⁸
     In 1881 he was living at 8 Artillery Street, Canterbury, Kent^G, and was recorded as William Sackett, gas works labourer, head of household, married, aged 40 and born in Deal. Living with him were his wife Rachel, 40, and their children, William, 18, Mary, 13, Louisa, 11, Olive, 9, Ernest, 6, Percy, 4, Jessie, 2, and Bertie, aged one month.⁹
     In 1891 he was living at 8 Artillery Street, Canterbury^G, and was recorded as William Sackett, an engine driver at the gas works, head of household, married, aged 47, and born in Deal. Living with him were his wife Rachel, aged 48, and born in Chartham, and their children, William, 28, Olive, 19, Ernest, 16, Percy, 14, Jessie, 12, and Bertie, aged ten.¹⁰
     In 1901 he was living at 3 Ivy Place, Canterbury^G, and was recorded as William Sackett, an engine driver at a gas works, head of household, married, aged 56. Living with him were his wife Rachel, 58, their unmarried sons, Percy, 24, and Herbert, 20, and their grandson George Sackett (Louisa's son), aged seven.¹¹
     In 1911 he was living at 17 Meadow Cottages, Wincheap Grove, Canterbury^G, and was recorded as William Sackett, stage foreman in the gas works, head of household, aged 65 and born in Deal. Living with him were his wife Rachel, 71, their unmarried son William, 48, and their grandson George Sackett, 18.¹²
     In 1921 William's widow Rachel was living at 29 Wincheap Grove, Canterbury^G, and was recorded in the census as Rachel Sackett, head of household, a widow, aged 78. Her son William, 58, was living with her.¹³
