He was one of the early abolitionists, and took an active part in the stirring incidents of the ante bellum period.
He leaves four daughters and one son to mourn his death. Mrs. E. S. Garlick and Miss Flora Sackett live in this city. Two of the daughters live in Illinois and the son lives in Iowa.
Mr. Sackett was a member of the Congregational church, and led an exemplary Christian life. The funeral will take place from the residence of W. B. Garlick, 600 Everett street, at 4 o'clock p. m. to-morrow, Thursday.

1521. Colonel Augustine Sacket, 1789–18__, son of (657) Homer and Sarah Carter Sacket, was married, Nov. 31, 1814, to Arze Starr, 1793-1871, daughter of Platt Starr, of Litchfield, Conn. Colonel Sacket was a successful farmer and a thorough going business man. He was born on a farm in Warren, Litchfield County, Conn., and in 1812 removed to Canandaigua, Ontario County, N. Y., where he and his brother Theron purchased jointly a small farm, to which they added from time to time, and gradually improved until it became one of the most productive and valuable farms in Ontario County. Theron Sacket never married and several years previous to 1850 sold his interest to his brother, Colonel Augustine.
The History of Ontario County, published in 1876, by Everts, Ensign and Everts, contains pictures of Colonel and Mrs. Sacket, together with that of the commodious and attractive dwelling in which they resided. Mr. Sacket was, like many of his kinsmen, an enthusiastic militiaman. Several years after he became a resident of Canandaigua he was commissioned Ensign of the light infantry company and speedily passed through all of the intermediary grades to that of commanding officer of the 11th N. Y. Infantry Regiment.

 Notes & Citations

  1. Charles Weygant, The Sacketts of America, It would appear that the dates given in Weygant for the sisters Patty and Polly Sacket have been transposed. The birth date in "1524. Patty Sacket, b. Jan 13, 1794; m. (1514) Eleazer C. Sackett." is seen to be that of her sister Polly (Barbour Vital Records). An original birth record for Patty has not been found but it may be assumed that this was 8 May 1804 as recorded in Polly's record, "1529. Polly Sacket, b. May 8, 1804, d. July 25, 1892; m. Harry Swift." This accords with Patty's age given in the 1880 census and is then more consistent with the known date of her marriage (1828) and particularly with the date of birth of her last child (1846). It is assumed too that the date of death, 25 July 1892, given for Polly was actually the date of Patty's death.
