In 1810 he was commissioned Paymaster of Colonel Swartwood's Regiment, of which his twin brother Nathaniel was at same time commissioned Quartermaster. The recently published minutes of the New York State Military Appointments, show that in 1817 he was commissioned Adjutant of 95th Regiment, in 1820 Major of 79th Regiment, and in 1821 Lieut. Col. Commandant of 199th Regiment, all of Tioga County. No record of his service in War of 1812 has been found. So far as known to the compiler of this volume he was unmarried.

William Henry Sackett

FatherNathaniel Sackett (1763-1812)
MotherBethiah Reynolds (1767-1809)
Marriage2 April 1822, New York CityGElethea A Higgins1,4,5
William Henry Sackett, son of Nathaniel Sackett and Bethiah Reynolds, was born in Greenwich, Fairfield County, ConnecticutG, about 1800.1,2,3 He died aged 72 in Brooklyn, New York CityG, on 23 October 1872 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, BrooklynG.6,7 He married in New York CityG on 2 April 1822, Elethea A Higgins.1,4,5 Elethea was born in New York StateG in 1805.7 She died in BrooklynG on 26 September 18568 and was buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, BrooklynG.7,9
William was named in his father's will made in Bedford, New York StateG, on 13 March 1812.10
In 1850 William was living in New York CityG and was recorded in the census as William H Sackett, aged 50 and born in New York. Living with him were his wife Elethea, 45, and their children, William, 25, James, 21, Eliza, 19, and Maria, 13.11
Research note
The Sacketts of America records William's death date as 28 February 1846 and his place of burial as Huntington, New York. However, he and Elethea are listed in the 1850 census. Their death and burial records, Elethea in 1856 and William in 1872, state that both were buried at Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn. William's death record gives his birthplace as Greenwich, Connecticut (although the 1850 census gives it as New York). His relationship as a son of Nathaniel Sackett is not confirmed but a birthplace of Greenwich would fit with Nathaniel's general whereabouts at that time.
A William H Sackett was listed in the 1840 census in Huntington and was buried there on 28 February 1846. Although clearly not the William who married Elethea, he has not been further identified.
