Eugene Louis Sackett, 73, passed away at 10:35 pm on Monday, February 24, 2025, at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 27, 1951, in Alton, Illinois, to Glen Adrian and Violet Louise (Meisenheimer) Sackett.
On January 3, 1992, he married Regina Blackburn in Alton, IL.
Eugene attended Alton High School and joined the U.S. Army 101st Airborne division, 321st Artillery Battery C-Company, Vietnam Veteran. He then later worked as a truck driver for J.B. Hunt. He was passionate about woodworking and working on automobiles. Eugene had a warm and outgoing nature, never meeting a stranger, and was loved by many.
He is survived by his wife Regina; children, Neta (Rich) Watson of Sorento, IL, Skylar (Emily) Sackett of Godfrey, IL, Amanda Blackburn of Alton, IL, Tammy Houth of Alton, IL, Sandy Kay (Jeffery) Hutson of Avon, North Carolina; siblings, Glen A. (Jean) Sackett of Iowa, Jane L. Augustson of East Alton, IL, Billy L. Sackett of Germany, Daniel W. (Anna) Sackett of Indiana, and Grace L. (Rick) Fischbach of Texas; along with several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild on the way.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon L. Sackett, his sister, Sue A. Bridgeman, and his niece, Jane B. Augustson.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, Illinois. The funeral procession will leave at 11:00 am for a graveside service at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 12:30 pm with full military honors.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital.
