Harriet Crow Jarman, daughter of James Jarman and Harriet Sackett, was born in St Peter in Thanet, KentG, in 1801 and baptized at St Peter in ThanetG on 28 June 1801.1 She died aged 61 in ThanetG,2 and was buried at RamsgateG on 16 February 1862.4 She married at St John in Thanet, KentG, on 11 March 1823, Thomas Spain, son of Thomas Spain and Sarah Marsh.3 Thomas was born in Northdown, St John's, MargateG, about 18005 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 20 April 1800.6
In 1841 Harriet was living in Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 45+, an agricultural labourer, and was recorded in the census as Harriet Spain, aged 40+ and born in Kent. Living with them were their children, Emma, 10, Henry, 9, Keziah, 6, Hannah, 4, and Rosina, aged one.7
In 1851 she was living at 2 Portland Court, RamsgateG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 52, a labourer, and was recorded as Harriett Spain, aged 49 and born in St Peter's. Living with them were their children, Hannah, 13, and Eliza, aged four.8
In 1861 she was living at 3 Cumberland Cottages, St Lawrence in ThanetG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 63, an agricultural labourer, and was recorded as Harriet Spain, aged 59 and born in Broadstairs. Living with them were their daughters, Eliza, 14, and Hannah Bristow, a widow, 23, and Hannah's sons, Phillip, 2, and Selham [Salem], aged one.9

James William Jarman, bricklayer and plasterer, son of James Jarman and Harriet Sackett, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 18031 and baptized at St Lawrence in ThanetG on 10 July 1803.2 He died aged about 82 in Thanet, KentG, in 1886.3 He married at St John in Thanet, KentG, on 14 August 1825, Mary Kirby.1 She was born in Herne, KentG, about 1800.4
In 1851 James was living at 13 Alfred Cottages, Ramsgate, KentG, and was recorded in the census as James W Jarman, bricklayer & plasterer, head of household, married, aged 47 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Mary, 51, children, Richard, 19, William, 14, and Thomas, 12, and grandson Alfred J Jarman, aged two.5
