Elijah Sackett, son of Thomas Sackett of Hopewell and Sarah Haywood, was born probably in PennsylvaniaG in 1751.1,2,3 He died aged 85 in Delaware, OhioG, on 29 August 18371,4 and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, DelawareG.6,7 He married first in 1779, Catharine Gibson, daughter of William Gibson Jr. and Anna Seaton.1 Catharine was born in Hopewell, Mercer County, New JerseyG, in 1760.6 She died aged about 70 in West Berlin, Delaware County, OhioG, on 7 December 1830 and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, DelawareG.6 He married second say 1832, Martha ___.5 She died on 28 September 1848 and was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, DelawareG.6
Elijah served in the American Revolutionary War in the 6th Battalion in PennsylvaniaG in 1780.8,7,9,10,11
Elijah paid taxes in Fannett, Franklin County, PennsylvaniaG, in 1781 on 100 acres of land, a horse and two cows. He paid state tax there in 1785 and 1786.12 He was listed there in the 1786 septennial census.13
Elijah was listed in the 1800 census as a householder in Tyrone, Crawford County, PennsylvaniaG.14 He was also listed as a taxpayer in Toboyne, Cumberland County, PennsylvaniaG, in 1800.15 In 1810 he was a householder in ToboyneG.16 In 1820 and 1830 he was a householder in Berlin, Delaware County, OhioG.17,18
After Catharine's death, and although now about 80, Elijah evidently married again. His second wife, Martha, was the subject of an agreement with Elijah's sons, Milton, Guy, and Augustine, setting aside part of Elijah's real estate as a widow's dower.5,19
Elijah served in the American Revolutionary War in the 6th Battalion in PennsylvaniaG in 1780.8,7,9,10,11

We the subscribers, having been cal'd upon, and Duly Sworn to set off to the widow of Elijah Sackett, late of Berlin Township Delaware County deceased.
Do set off to her according to the above Plot—namely twenty acres on the East side of the farm suposed to be 20 roads [sic] wide East and west Pasing on a parallel line with the east line thence departing from the center of the State on the next line of the division, south eight roads, Thence on a parallel line with said State road west on a Parallel line sixteen feet West of the Mansion house. Thence North Eight roads to the center of said State roads, thence with said road to the place of beginning. The inner fences to be removed on the division line, and then the fence to be equally divided in future to pairs and the fence to be placed on the line, Pasing around the Mansion, to be keep up by the Widow.
Given under our hands and seals this 5th day of January A.D. 1838.

Know all Men by these presents that we the undersigned the heirs of the late Elijah Sacket of the State County and Township aforesaid Decead of the one part And Martha Sacket the Widow of of the Late Elijah Sacket Deceasd of the other part by these presents are held and firmly bound unto each other in the panel [sic] sum of Five Hundred Dollars as witness our hands and seals this 5th day of January A D 1838.
The condition of the above obligation is such that whereas the said heirs of Elijah Sackett and the widow of said E Sackett deceased has this day amicably and severally agreed to submit the division of the Real Estate of said Elijah Sackett so far as relates to the widow dower.
To the following disinterested men viz Hugh Lee, Harry Janes & Ira Arnold. Know ye therefore that if the parties above named do abide the division made by the said Hugh Lee, Harry Janes & Ira Arnold, Then and in that case then this obligation to be nul and void. Else to remain in full force and virtue in law.
