Melvin Howard Sackett, son of William John Sackett and Mary Louise De Mun, was born in Binghamton, Broome County, New York StateG, on 14 August 1932.1 He died aged 63 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Bradford County, PennsylvaniaG, on 23 October 19952 and was buried at the Nichols Cemetery, Tioga County, New York StateG.6,7 He married first before 1959, Mearle Joan "Muriel" Collins, daughter of Arthur B Collins and Margaret M Hughes.3,4 Muriel was born in PennsylvaniaG on 7 October 1927.8 They divorced sometime before 1965 and Muriel later married Harold B Pratt. She died aged 68 in Erin, Houston County, TennesseeG, on 2 August 1996.2,8 Melvin married second in Sayre, Bradford County, PennsylvaniaG, on 10 May 1965, Jane Louise Bensley, daughter of Paul Bensley and Blanche Briggs.5,2 Jane was born in Nichols, Tioga CountyG, on 19 July 1940.9,10

Melvin served as a Sergeant in the US Army in Korea and Vietnam. He was aged 14 on enlistment to the National Guard in January 1947 but gave his age as 18. This would appear to have been challenged and, following his fifteenth birthday in August of that year, he revised his age down by two years instead of four, claiming to be 17.6,12,13

Melvin H. Sackett of Halsey Valley
Melvin Howard Sackett, 63, of 207 Hamilton Valley Road, passed away suddenly on Monday, October 23, 1995, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. He was born on August 14, 1932, in Binghamton, N.Y., one of seven children to Mary Louise DeMunn and the late William John Sackett. Mel attended schools in Binghamton and later joined the U.S. Army and had completed 21 years of service, retiring as a Staff Sgt. On May 10, 1965, in Sayre, Pa., he married Jane (Bensley) Sackett and together they made their home in Halsey Valley. Mel was an avid wood carver and made many fine pieces of furniture for his family. He took great pride in his "Black Foot Indian" heritage, spending many hours enjoying Mother Nature's countryside. His love for his family and friends, through his acts of kindness, will never be forgotten. In addition to his mother, Mary, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jane; daughters and sons-in-law, Sonja and J.R. Craft, Linda and Thompson Kithcart, Diana and Harold Kithcart, Margaret Sackett; sons and daughters-in-law, David Bensley, Mark and Brenda Sackett, Michael and Terri Sackett, Daniel and Irene Sackett, and Harold Sackett; his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Cathy Sackett, Devillo and Cindy Sackett, James and Bertha Sackett; his sister, Juanita Wage; sisters-in-law, Beverly Sackett and Marjorie Sackett; seventeen special grandchildren; a great granddaughter; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father in 1964; his brothers, Leon in 1985 and Gerald in 1993.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27, 1995 at 2 p.m. from the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, Main St., Nichols. Interment will follow at the Nichols Cemetery. The family will receive their friends on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Chapel. The family would like to say thanks to the Halsey Valley and the Tioga Center Emergency Squads for their fast response, care and concern.

Muriel J. Pratt, 68, passed away Friday, August 2, 1996 in Erin, Tenn. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Margaret Collins. She is survived by her husband, Harold B. Pratt, Binghamton; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Judy and James DeVaul, Binghamton, Margaret Middleton-Sackett and Edward Middleton, Binghamton, Danielle Pratt, Binghamton; one son, Harold Sackett, Fla; three special grandchildren, Stephanie Beale, Justin Finch and Aminah Shabazz; also several other grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; one uncle; two foster daughters, Tina Turner, Binghamton, LuAnne White, Binghamton; and many close friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. from the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 44 Exchange St., Binghamton, with the Rev. Gary Doupe officiating. Burial will be in the Islamic Cemetery of the Southern Tier, Maine, N.Y.

The Tioga County (N.Y.) Sheriff's Department said a passenger was injured about 8:25 p.m. Friday when an auto driven by Melvin H. Sackett, 45, of Lockwood, went out of control on the Day Hollow Road in the Town of Owego.
Deputies said the vehicle travled 270 feet off the road until coming to rest on a lawn owned by Raymond Hallett.
The passenger Mrs Jane L. Sackett, 35, was taken to Ideal Hospital in Endicott for treatment of minor injuries and was released.
Deputies said Sackett was ticked for failure to keep right.
The Campville Fire Department Emergency Squad assisted at the scene.

Vernon Walter Sackett, son of Walter Edward Sackett and Wilma Louise Nemnich, was born in Marine, Madison County, IllinoisG, on 16 April 1922.1 He died aged 71 in IllinoisG on 18 March 19942,3 and was buried at Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Madison CountyG.5 He married at the Methodist Church, MadisonG, on 25 November 1948, Lucille Emmons, daughter of Morgan Emmons and Myrtle Carter.4 Lucille was born in Granite City, Madison County, IllinoisG, on 9 November 1926.6 She died aged 87 at the St Louis University Hospital, MissouriG, on 28 July 2014 and was buried at Sunset Hill CemeteryG.5
In 1930 Vernon was living in MadisonG in the household of his parents Walter and Wilma, and was recorded in the census as Vernon Sackett, aged seven and born in Illinois.7
Vernon served in the US Navy during the Second World War in the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate, first class, enlisting at Robertson, St Louis County, MissouriG, on 16 April 1940 and being released on 17 December 1945. He was based at the US Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida.8,9

Ruth Lucille Sackett, 87 of Granite City passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 at St. Louis University Hospital.
Lucille was born on November 9, 1926 in Granite City, a daughter to the late Morgan and Myrtle (Carter) Emmons.
Lucille was a life long homemaker and a member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City. In her free time she stayed active by enjoying painting, square dancing, working crossword puzzles, watching Jeopardy and sewing. She will be remembered for her loving heart and the many special times she shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by and will be missed by her son; Vernon Paul Sackett of Elgin, IL; daughter, Susan Lynne Sackett of Williamsville, IL; grandson, Jon Sackett of Elgin, IL.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon W. Sackett, whom she married on November 25, 1948.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City. In celebration of her life services are Friday, August 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Pate officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon. Memorials are suggested to Nameoki United Methodist Church.

Word was received in Marine Saturday afternoon that Walter Sackett of Madison had taken his own life at his home that morning. Mr. Sackett had been in ill health for the past year having suffered a nervous breakdown.
Mr. Sackett formerly of Marine has lived in Madison for sometime and was employed with the I.C.R.R.
He is survived by his wife, the former Wilma Nemnich, three daughters, one son and one grandchild, all of Madison, also two sisters, Mrs. Joe Bisgen of Marine and Mrs. Arthur Ochs of St. Louis.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon in Madison.

Funeral services for Walter E. Sackett, formerly of Marine, were held at Madison on Tuesday afternoon and burial was at Sunset Hill cemetery. Rev. Metcalfe officiated at the services.
The Ochs trio of St. Louis, nieces of Mr. Sackett, sang three songs, "It Is Well With My Soul," "Goodnight Here, Good Morning Up There" and "He Heals Every Heartache." The Mason lodge of Marine held services on Monday evening.
The Venice-Madison Post of American Legion had charge of guard duty and military rites at the grave.

Horace Norman Sackett, son of Demming Whittlesey Sackett and Emily D Bacon, was born in OhioG on 22 June 1849.1,2 He died aged 56 on 12 April 19061 and was buried at Marine Cemetery, Saint Jacob, Madison County, IllinoisG.6 He married in Pana, Christian County, IllinoisG, on 4 August 1886, Mary Jane Barrick, daughter of George Barrick and Mary Ann Miley.3,4,5 Mary Jane was born on 22 September 1861.7 She died aged 82 on 2 October 1943 and was buried at Marine CemeteryG.6

Horace Sackett was seriously injured last Wednesday morning by his cow. He was holding her while she was grazing when she became frightened and ran away. Attempting to catch her his left foot became entangled in the rope and he was dragged two blocks when his boot came off releasing him. He was bruised and scratched all over and some of his injuries may prove more serious than supposed at first. He is quite ill at present.
Funeral Services Held.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 5, at 2 o'clock for Mrs. Mary Jane Sackett, who died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Saturday, October 2. Rev. Otto Bassler, pastor of the Evangelical church at Highland officiated, and burial was made in the Marine Cemetery. Pall-bearers were Otto Deibert, Nick Wildhuber, Ben Hess, Otto Talleur, Leroy Zimmerli and Norbert Hotz. Mrs. Sackett had made her home at the Highland Hospital for the past 23 years, and death was due to complications and her advanced age of 82 years and 19 days. She was the daughter of George and Mary Ann Barrick, and was born near New Hebron, Crawford county, Illinois. On August 4, 1886 she was united in marriage to Horace Norman Sackett, at Pana, Ill. Four children were born to this union. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Snodgrass, preceded her in death. She is survived by three children: Mrs. Pearl Bisgen of Marine, Mrs. Mary Ochs of St. Louis, and Walter Sackett of Madison; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchilden, one daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law.

Homer Jay Sackett, son of Clarence Lee Sackett and Agnes Davis, was born in Clemons, Marshall County, IowaG, on 6 June 1921.1 He died aged 78 in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County, CaliforniaG, on 15 December 1999.2,3 He married Rosa Mae Atkins, daughter of Henry Peter Atkins and Pauline E Richter.4 Rosa was born in North DakotaG on 24 April 1918.4 She died aged 87 in Sedalia, Pettis County, MissouriG, on 30 November 2005.4,5
In 1930 Homer was living in Nevada, Story County, IowaG, in the household of his uncle Edward Ross, and was recorded in the census as Homer Sackett, aged eight and born in Iowa.6
Homer served in the US Navy as a Motor Machinist's Mate during the Second World War, enlisting in Des Moines, IowaG, on 29 November 1939. He served on the light cruisers, USS Milwaukee and USS Raleigh, the oiler USS Pecos, and the minesweeper USS YMS-298. He was released from service in September 1945.7
Homer completed a World War II draft registration card on 2 November 1945. He was aged 24, living in Boone, IowaG, and was unemployed, having recently been discharged from the US Navy.8
On 19 November 1945 Homer was employed by the Chicago and North Western Railroad in Boone, IowaG, starting work the following day as a porter at Cedar Rapids.9,10
Homer applied for and was granted a war bonus of $500 in October 1949 by the Iowa WWII Service Compensation Board.11
Homer and Rosa were listed in the Vallejo, California, City Directory in 1950 and 1953. Homer was a welder.12 They were listed in 1964 in the Sacramento City Directory. Homer was a welder at Terminal Steel and Rosa was a sales clerk.13
