Sudden Death of Mrs. Bernie Sackett on Saturday
Shock to Community
Funeral Tuesday.
The Angel of Death called Mrs. Bernie Sackett, of Burleene township. Mrs. Sackett's death came suddenly and entirely unexpectedly and her home community and that of her girlhood in Reynolds were inexpressibly shocked and grieved when news of her death came. Mrs. Sackett's death occurred at her home in Burleene township early Saturday evening, following the birth to her of a little child which survives. Mrs. Sackett before her marriage was Miss Viola May Petrie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Petrie, of Reynolds township, where she was born and grew to young womanhood. She attended the public schools of her home community, graduating from the eighth grade and in 1928 was united in marriage to Bernie Sackett. Together they established their home in Burleene township, near Clotho, a home which is now darkened with sorrow. In her years of residence in Reynolds and after her removal to Burleene Mrs. Sackett gathered about her a wide circle of friends, and her untimely death brings sorrow to many. Surviving her, besides the tiny babe, are the grief stricken husband, her parents, and two brothers and three sisters, as follows: Misses Marie, Mildred and Nellie and Albert and Melvin Petrie, all residing at home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, a short service at the home at 1:30 being followed by a service at the Long Prairie Methodist church, Rev. Geer officiating. The funeral was largely attended, attesting the high esteem in which the young matron had been held in her home community and the sorrow there is at her passing. The Whiteville church choir sang at the Sackett home and a quartet rendered music at the church here during the funeral. Miss Lydia Larwin presiding at the organ. Interment was made in Evergreen cemetery, the following young men who were her former schoolmates officiating as pallbearers: Harry Reinbold, Lloyd Connor, Miles Maland, Earl Reinbold, Otto Kuenzel and Frank Connor. The Leader joins in condolences being extended to the bereaved by friends. The following relatives and friends of the family were here from out of town for the funeral services Tuesday: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Petrie, of Jamestown, N.D; Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Mattison and son of Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Porter, of Eagle Bend and Earl and John Wendl of Truman.
