Mother | Elizabeth Leonard (1729/30-1816) |
Erastus Sacket Jr, son of Erastus Sacket and Elizabeth Leonard, was born in Springfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 29 July 17501,2 and baptized at the Church of Christ, Westfield, Hampden CountyG, on 9 September 1750.3 He died aged 88 in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, MassachusettsG, on 28 September 18384,5 and was buried at Terrace Grove, Pittsfield CemeteryG.5 He married Sarah ___. Sarah was born in 1758.6 She died in PittsfieldG on 30 April 18335 and was buried in Terrace Grove, Pittsfield CemeteryG.
Erastus served in the American Revolutionary War.5
Erastus was included in a 1786 census of Pittsfield householders; his father Erastus was also listed.7
In 1790 Erastus was living in Pittsfield, Berkshire County, MassachusettsG. In his household were one man and six females, presumably his wife Sarah and five of their daughters.8
Erastus was listed in the census in 1800, 1810, 1820, and 1830 as a householder in PittsfieldG.9,10,11,12
Erastus and his brother Solomon were founder members, with 24 other townsmen, of the Berkshire Cattle Show, held in the Square in the Village of PittsfieldG for the first time on 1 October 1810 when "farmers in this County and its vicinity" were "respectfully invited to attend this first exhibition, from nine to three of the clock, with bulls, oxen, steers, and other neat cattle, Merino sheep of the different grades, as well as other improved breeds, hogs or swine of different breeds, and such useful animals as they may think proper" in the hope that "this essay will lead to permanent annual cattle shows, and that an incorporated Agricultural Society will emanate from these meetings."13
Erastus was appointed joint administrator, with his daughter Beulah, of the estate of Beulah's husband Jonathan Davis who died intestate in Otsego County, New York, in about 1811.14
In his late old age, Erastus was deemed incapable of handling his own affairs and a guardian, Calvin Martin, was appointed. The guardian petitioned the Berkshire County Court in June 1837 for permission to sell a five-acre plot of land owned by Erastus in Lenox. The land had previously been owned by the late Samuel Judd, presumably Erastus's son-in-law who had died in 1832.15

To the Hon. Judge of Probate for the County of Berkshire.
The Petition of Calvin Martin, of Pittsfield, in said County, Guardian of Erastus Sacket, of said Pittsfield, a person incapable of taking care of himself. Your petitioner respectfully represents that the said Sacket is seized and possessed of certain real estate lying in the town of Lenox, in said County, and bounded south by the road leading from the County Road to East Street, west on land formerly owned by Samuel Judd, deceased, north on land lately owned by Thomas Tracy, east by land lately owned by Simeon Stoddard, containing, by estimation, five acres and fifty-five rods of land. Said real estate is destitute of a fence and of an oblong form, and the expense of fencing would be great and disproportionate to the incomes arising from the cultivation of said land: and your petitioner would further state, that it would be for the interest of said Sacket, and all others interested therein, that said real estate should be sold and the avails thereof put out on interest.—Wherefore your petitioner prays, that he may be empowered and licensed to make sale of said real estate agreeably to the law in such case made and provided.
Calvin Martin.

Sally Sackett
Father | Stephen Sacket (1748-1830) |
Mother | Eunice Ross (c 1746-1830) |
Sally Sackett, daughter of Stephen Sacket and Eunice Ross, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, about 17851 and baptized at the Church of Christ, WestfieldG, on 11 November 1794.2 She died aged about 68 in WestfieldG on 24 July 1853 and was buried at the Old Burying Ground, WestfieldG.3 She married Mason Morse.
Sally was named as a beneficiary in her father's will, made at WestfieldG on 5 October 1829 and proved on 2 March 1830. She was to receive a sum of $1. This token sum, together with the rider "which with what she has already received is to be her full share", and the fact that Stephen refers to her not as his daughter but as the wife of Mason Morse, suggests a falling-out or an exasperation with too many past demands. However, Stephen generously left $50 to each of Sally's four children.
In 1850 Sally was living in WestfieldG and was recorded in the census as Sarah Morse, aged 65 and born in Massachusetts. Her daughter Eunice, 35, was living with her.4
