Stephen Sackett Chancellor, baker, later a wharfinger, son of John Chancellor and Sarah Hester Dixon, was born in Margate, KentG, about 17921 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 22 January 1792.1 He died aged 85 in Thanet, KentG, on 15 July 1877.2,3 He married at St John in ThanetG on 1 July 1815, Mary Elizabeth Tadhunter, daughter of William Tadhunter and Mary Steed.4 Mary Tadhunter was born in Canterbury, KentG, about 17905 and baptized at Canterbury St MargaretG on 13 February 1791.5
     In 1826 Stephen was a baker of 70 High Street, MargateG.6
     In 1841 Stephen was living at Lower Marine Terrace, St John's, MargateG, and was recorded in the census as Stephen Chancellor, a wharfinger, aged 49 and born in Kent. Living with him were his wife Mary, 50, and children, Elizabeth, 20, and Francis, aged 14. There were four other occupants including a female servant.7
     In 1861 he was living at 3 Lower Marine Terrace, Margate, KentG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, clerk to Margate Pier Company, head of household, married, aged 69 and born in Margate. Living with him was his wife Mary, aged 70. Also in the household was a female domestic servant.8
     Stephen left a will which was proved at Canterbury, KentG, on 13 October 1877 by his daughter Elizabeth Sarah Chancellor, the surviving executrix. The value of his estate was under £1,500.3

Stephen Sackett Chancellor, baker, son of Stephen Sackett Chancellor and Mary Elizabeth Tadhunter, was born in Margate, KentG, in 18181 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 22 March 1818.1 He died aged 81 in Thanet, KentG, in 1900.2 He married first at St John in ThanetG on 15 December 1840, Louisa Bartlett, daughter of John Bartlett and Lydia ___.3 Louisa was born in MargateG in 18195 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 7 November 1819.5 She died aged about 42 in MargateG in 1861.6 He married second at St Luke's, West Holloway, Islington, MiddlesexG, on 13 January 1874, Elizabeth Charlotte Lansell, daughter of Thomas Lansell.4
     In 1841 Stephen was living at Bridge Street, MargateG, and was recorded in the census as S S Chancellor, a baker, aged 20+ and born in Kent. Living with him was his wife Louisa, aged 20+. There was an Elizabeth Rogers, aged 15+, in the household and may have been three others, one male and two females, including a female servant.7
     In 1851 he was living at Bridge Street, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, a baker, head of household, married, aged 33 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Louisa, 32, and their children, Ellen, 6, Jessie, 3, and William, aged two. Also in the household were three female shop servants, one of whom, Elizabeth Charlotte Lansell, was to become Stephen's second wife.8
     In 1861 he was living at Egerton? House, Paradise Place, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, a baker employing two men and one boy, head of household, married, aged 43 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Louisa, 41, and their children, Harry, 7, Louisa E, 17, and Jessie, aged 13. Also in the household were business assistant Elizabeth Lansell, and two female house servants.9
     In 1871 he was living at 7 King Street, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, a baker, head of household, a widower aged 53 and born in Margate. Living with him were his unmarried children, Maria, 29, and Stephen, 19. Also in the household were housekeeper Elizabeth Lansell, a female domestic servant, and two baker's men.10
     In 1881 he was living at 42 St Peter's Road, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen S Chancellor, a baker, head of household, married, aged 63 and born in Margate. Living with him were his second wife Elizabeth, 53, and his unmarried daughter, Maria, aged 39. Also in the household were two female domestic servants.11
     In 1891 he was living at 42 St Peter's Road, MargateG, and was recorded as Stephen Chancellor, a retired baker, head of household, married, aged 73 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Elizabeth, 63, and his unmarried daughter Maria, 49. Also in the household were two female domestic servants.12
