Divorce
From the Sycamore Republican's list of divorce cases which are to come before the circuit court this term we clip the following as being of interest to DeKalb people:
May L. Sackett says in her bill that she was married to DeL. Sackett on the 10th of October, 1867, and resided with him until October, 1885, and at all times was a faithful wife, but that the defendant, wholly regardless of his marriage covenants, on the last date mentioned deserted her and has continued to absent himself up to the present time. She says she is a delicate woman, unable to support herself and she wishes that Sackett be restrained from selling or disposing of his property and that he be compelled to make proper and suitable provisions for her separate maintenance and support.
—The De Kalb Chronicle, De Kalb, Illinois, 12 Oct 1889, p 7

Marriage
Sackett-Woleben.
The nuptials of Mr. D. L. Sackett, of So. Chicago, and Miss Mary C. Woleben, of Marengo, were celebrated Tuesday evening, January 19th, at the home of the bride's mother, Mrs. S. V. Woleben, by Rev. E. W. Thomson, in the presence of the family relatives—a quiet, pleasant wedding party.
A superb wedding supper was served in honor of the occasion, in which the printer was kindly remembered.
The bride is one of Marengo's fairest, best, and brightest young ladies, with all the accomplishments of heart and mind to adorn the best stations in social life, and to make home an earthly Paradise indeed.
Mr. Sackett is a photographer in South Chicago, a gentleman of high social standing, and of excellent business qualifications.
The newly-wedded couple took the 8:52 evening train for Chicago, followed by the earnest good wishes of a wide circle of friends and relatives.

Obituaries
DeLester Sackett
De Lester Sackett, photographer and lecturer, died Tuesday morning at his home, 555 South street, Elgin. Deceased was 60 years old and had formerly made his home in Crystal Lake, but had lived in Elgin for about seven years.
Death came after a decline in health of several years. He was confined to his bed since Dec. 1, but rallied Saturday, and the relapse and death early Tuesday were unexpected. With his wife and child he attended the Iroquois theatre and escaped from the terrible fire there. The shock sustained in this conflagration caused the breakdown in health which finally ended in death.
Had he lived, Mr. Sackett would have this year taken up lecturing as his life work. He recently signed with the Consolidated Lyceum bureau, and expected to deliver a series of lectures in various cities, his subject being, "Man-ology." He was the author of a book on character reading and palmistry.
De Lester Sackett was born July 14, 1847, at Plymouth, N. Y., and at the age of 16 moved to St. Peter, Minn., to live with brothers. Five years later he moved to Cortland, Ill, and spent the remainder of his life in northern Illinois.
Deceased was a graduate of the Fowler & Wells Institute of Phrenology in New York city, completing a course in this school in 1889.
Fraternally the deceased was a well known Mason. He was a member of the commandery of Monitor lodge, A.F. and A.M., and a member of the Royal Arch Masons, and the Knight Templars. He was also an enthuslastic member of the Modern Woodman society.
Besides the widow, Mary W. Sackett, deceased leaves a daughter, Helen, and his twin sons, De Lester and De Forest. Two sisters, Mrs. Mary Neuman of Paxton, IlL, and Mrs. Clara E. Bennett of Cortland, Ill., and one brother, A. L. Sackett of St. Peter, Minn., also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at Masonic Temple on Spring street in Elgin, and will be conducted by the Masonic fraternity. Burial will take place at Marengo, the funeral cortege leaving on a funeral car over the Belvidere line, at 3:10 o'clock.
