John Hogbin, auctioneer, son of John Hogbin and Phoebe Sackett, was born in Margate, Kent^G, in 1836 and baptized at St John in Thanet^G on 16 October 1836.¹ He died aged 76 in Herne Bay, Kent^G, on 6 August 1913.^2,3 He married first in Thanet, Kent^G, in 1859, Mary Ann Apps, daughter of ___ Apps and Sarah ___.^4,5 Mary Ann was born in Ramsgate, Kent^G, about 1828⁸ and died aged 63 in Herne Bay^G in 1891.⁹ He married second in Louth, Lincolnshire^G, in 1894, Catherine Augusta Cresswell.^6,7
     John Hogbin was engaged in business as an auctioneer and upholsterer. His will indicates that he prospered, and he was described in his son Leonard's marriage record by the honorific "gentleman."
     In 1841 John was living at Hardres Street, Ramsgate^G, in the household of his parents John and Phoebe, and was recorded in the census as John Hogben, aged four and born in Kent.¹⁰
     In 1851 he was living at 15 Hardres Street, Ramsgate^G, in the household of his parents John and Phoebe, and was recorded as John Hogbin, a smith's son, aged 14 and born in St John's.¹¹
     In 1861 he was living at Mortimer Street, Herne Bay^G, and was recorded as John Hogbin, an upholsterer, head of household, married, aged 25 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Mary Ann, 32, and their son Charles, aged one month. Also in the household was Mary Ann's mother Sarah Epps, 66, presumably visiting to help with the baby.¹²

     John was named as a beneficiary in his uncle Benjamin Watten Sackett's will made in Ramsgate^G on 5 December 1881.¹⁵
     John proved his mother Phoebe's will on 20 July 1889. Her estate was valued at £3,043.¹⁶

     John left a will which was proved in London^G on 27 September 1913 by his son Leonard. His estate was valued at £6,566.³

Mercy Hogbin, daughter of John Hogbin and Phoebe Sackett, was born in Margate, Kent^G, in 1838^2,3 and baptized at St George, Ramsgate, Kent^G, on 10 June 1838.⁴ She died aged 82 in Thanet, Kent^G, in 1921.⁵ She married in Thanet^G in 1867, Shrubsole Lawrence Jr, son of Shrubsole Lawrence Sr and Harriet ___.^6,7 Shrubsole was born in Margate^G about 1840² and died aged 82 in Thanet^G in 1923.⁸ Shrubsole's brother Frederick Lawrence married Mercy's sister Mary Ann.⁹

Emma Hogbin, daughter of John Hogbin and Phoebe Sackett, was born in Ramsgate, Kent^G, in 1847.^1,2 She died aged 87 in Broadstairs, Kent^G, on 10 January 1934.³ She married in Thanet, Kent^G, in 1869, James George Marsh.^4,5 James was born in Canterbury, Kent^G, about 1848.² James died in Broadstairs, Kent^G, on 21 September 1903.⁶ He drowned when attempting to rescue a swimmer who had got into difficulties.^6,7

She was a visitor, with her unmarried daughter Edith, in the household of her daughter Emma and son-in-law John Sisley.¹²
     Emma left a will which was proved in London^G on 17 May 1934 by her children Donald and Emma. Her estate was valued at £807. Her last address was Jamesville, Crow Hill, Broadstairs.³

Maria Elizabeth Sackett, daughter of John Henry Sackett and Elizabeth Catherine Meinert, was born in Bermondsey, Surrey^G, on 14 October 1827¹ and baptized at St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey^G, on 11 November 1827.¹ She married at St Matthew's Church, Bethnal Green, Middlesex^G, on 18 December 1853, William Gibson.^2,3

George Henry Sackett, son of John Henry Sackett and Elizabeth Catherine Meinert, was born in Bermondsey, Surrey^G, on 29 April 1830¹ and baptized at St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey^G, on 20 June 1830.¹ He was probably the George Sackett who died in Islington, Middlesex^G, in 1880² and was buried at Islington Cemetery^G on 27 August 1880.³

     George enlisted for ten years in the Royal Navy, serving from 3 February 1862 as a caulker on HMS Mars.⁶
