 Notes & Citations

  1. William's World War I draft registration, his passport application, and his death certificate give his date of birth as 27 Nov 1876. However, his mother Ann died on 2 Jan 1876, evidenced by the date on her gravestone and by a newspaper obituary published on 6 Jan 1876. It is therefore assumed that he was born on 27 Nov 1875. The application for the passport was supported by a sworn statement from his stepmother Emma in which she confirmed that he was born at Weyauwega, Wisconsin, on 27 Nov 1876, that his father was her late husband Freeman W Sackett, and that his mother was Ann Sackett, nee Meiklejohn, deceased.
