Marriage17 September 1927, Maplewood, St Louis County, MissouriGOliver Tendick3
Myrtle Elsie Sackett, daughter of John Henry Sackett and Julia Cordelia Lee, was born in Winfield, Cowley County, KansasG, on 13 March 1891.1 She died aged 52 in St Louis, MissouriG, on 8 April 1943 and was buried at Valhalla Cemetery, St LouisG.4,5 She married first in Cowley CountyG on 6 February 1909, Hilton Sidle. (A newspaper report prematurely announced their marriage in December 1908.) They divorced about 1911.2 She married second in Cowley County, KansasG, on 16 December 1912, Ora Francis Finney, son of Abe Finney and Minnie ___.2 Ora was born in Cambridge, Cowley CountyG, on 31 December 1890.6 They divorced sometime before 15 January 1923 when Ora married Helen Seaman. Ora died aged 63 in WinfieldG on 17 September 1954.6 She married third in Maplewood, St Louis County, MissouriG, on 17 September 1927, Oliver Tendick, son of Benjamin Franklin Tendick and Emma Duenkelberg.3
In 1900 Myrtle was living in Tisdale, Cowley County, KansasG, in the household of her parents John and Julia, and was recorded in the census as Myrtle E Sackett, aged nine and born in Kansas.7
In 1910 she was living at 1521 East Eleventh Avenue, Winfield, Cowley CountyG, in the household of her parents John and [Julia] Cordelia, and was recorded as Myrtle E Sackett [an error for Sidle], aged 19. Her husband Hilton Sidle, 19, and their one-year-old daughter Ruby were living with her.8
In 1920 she was living at East 10th Avenue, WinfieldG, in the household of her second husband, Ora Finney, and was recorded as Myrtle E Finney, aged 28. Her daughter Ruby Sidle, 8, by her first marriage was living with them.9
Following her divorce from Ora Finney, Myrtle removed in 1925 from Kansas to Seattle, Washington State, driving there with her daughter Ruby, then 16, and 28-year-old William Hopkins. Some weeks after arrival, William and Ruby married secretly after Myrtle refused to give consent. Myrtle and William had been living as man and wife and she claimed that they were married. She brought charges against William, leading to his arrest (see newspaper reports on Ruby's record).
Myrtle's claim that she and William were legally married was evidently without foundation. Her daughter Ruby and William Hopkins remained married until his death in 1960. Myrtle removed to Missouri where she was married as Myrtle Finney to Oliver Tendick in 1927.
In 1930 she was living at 7008A Southwest, St Louis, MissouriG, in the household of her husband Oliver Tendick, 29, a railroad operator, and was recorded as Myrtle Tendick, aged 38.10
In 1940 she was living at 7116 Robenberg, St LouisG, in the household of her husband Oliver, 39, a railroad signaller, and was recorded as Myrtle Tendick, aged 42 [actually 49]. Oliver's widowed mother Emma was also in the household.11
In 1940 Myrtle's daughter Ruby and Ruby's husband William Hopkins were living just a few miles away in Maplewood, MissouriG, perhaps a sign that they had settled their differences.
