     George enlisted in the East Kent Regiment "The Buffs" at Birchington^G on 5 February 1901. He served in South Africa in the Second Boer War and saw action in Cape Colony and the Orange Free State. He was discharged on 6 June 1902.¹³

     Edmund emigrated to Australia, arriving in Melbourne from London on the Norseman on 17 March 1914.⁷ He enlisted in the First World War on 20 June 1915 in the Australian Field Artillery, serving as a bombardier.⁸ He was killed in action on 8 October 1918 near Cambrai, France^G,^3,4 and was buried at the Bellicourt British Cemetery, Aisne, France^G.⁴
