The only record found for Richard Sackett is his will made at Chipping OngarG on 15 July 1678.1 He left all his goods and chattells to his wife Mary, asking her "for my sake to be kind to my children." POTSDAM, N.Y. (WWNY) - Richard Sackett, 69, of Potsdam, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 in the home he was born in. He was surrounded by his family, and under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of the St. Lawrence Valley.
Richard was born September 12, 1950 to Elmer and Nodine (Lamb) Sackett. He graduated from Potsdam High School. In November 1973 he married Deborah A. Bogart in Heuvelton; she predeceased him on September 1, 2009. A good portion of his life was spent working on the family farm, he also worked in the bus garage at Potsdam Central and Rick’s Body Repair in Canton. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard Jr. and daughter, Bridget Eckel; grandchildren, Kelly, Debbi, Christian, Jaden and George . Also surviving are his siblings, Linda Sackett, Kathy Regan, Kevin Robidoux (Laura), Karen Bush (Wendall) Joe Robidoux (Barb) and Keith Robidioux, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the O’Leary Funeral Home in Canton. A memorial service will be held at the funeral home following the calling hours.
The family would like to express special thanks and appreciation to Richard’s close friend, Linda Suckow, brother, Kevin Robidoux and niece Robin for all of their love and care and meal deliveries during the last few months of his life.
