     Ralph served in the US Marine Corps from 2 May 1917 to 1 August 1919 during the First World War. He re-enlisted on 13 September 1920, serving until 7 September 1923.^14,15

     Ralph completed a World War II draft registration card on 16 February 1942. He was aged 42 and was employed by the Hunter Packing Company in East St Louis. He was living at 1407 Nectar Avenue, East St Louis^G, with his wife Christine.¹⁹
     In 1950 he was living in Williamsville, Sangamon County, Illinois^G, and was recorded as Ralph Sackett, a buyer at the Hunter Packing Company, aged 50. His wife Christine, 50, was living with him.²⁰
