Oliver P. Sackett Dead.
     Oliver P. Sackett, father of H. E. Sackett of this city, and for the past nine years a resident of Beatrice, died at the home of his son, 1510 Grant street, Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, aged eighty-four years.
     Mr. Sackett had been sick for about a month, but his death came as a shock to the family and their friends.
     The deceased leaves four children: Mrs. W. J. Todd, Harry E. Sackett and Miss Lottie Sackett of Beatrice and C. O. Sackett of Cameron, Mo.
     Funeral services will be held from the residence at 10:30 o'clock Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. J. E. Davis of the Christian church. The remains will then be taken to Cameron, Mo., the former home of the deceased, and will be laid to rest beside those of his wife.
Obituary.
     Oliver P. Sackett died at the home of his son, H. E. Sackett, Oct. 17, 1911. He was born in Canfield, Mahoning Co., Ohio, on January 19, 1828, being at the time of his death 83 years, 8 months and 28 days of age.
     He came of a family of early pioneers who settled upon the Western Reserve of Ohio, coming from Warren Litchfield Co., Conn. He was a direct descendant of John Sackett, who together with his brother, Simon Sackett, were among the early Puritan colonists of New England, landing at Nantasket Roads off Boston Town February 5, 1631.
     Benjamin Sackett, grandfather of the deceased, and Captain Justice Sackett, great grandfather, were soldiers in the War of the Revolution.
     The deceased was married January 26, 1856 to Miss Elsie Turner of Akron, Ohio, who died April 27, 1871; of this marriage were born Charles O. Sackett now of Cameron, Mo., and Mrs. Lelia S. Todd of Beatrice, Nebr. Later he was married to Mary E. Stearns, also of Akron, Ohio, who departed this life at Cameron, Mo., November 1, 1886, H. E. Sackett and Miss Charlotte M. Sackett, both of this city, being the children of this union.
     His parents were pioneer members of the Christian church which faith he also embraced in early manhood under the teachings of Alexander Campbell. His gifts to the church were always commensurate with his ability, during his active life.
     As did many young men of his time, he made the trip across the plains following what is now known as the Oregon Trail, crossing Gage county in 1866, returning home from Portland, Oregon, by way of the Isthmus of Panama crossing this point at a later date. He moved to Cameron, Mo., in 1874 where he resided for a number of years.
     Mr. Sackett came to Beatrice from Cameron, Mo., 9 years ago and has since made his home with H. E. Sackett, his son.

Funeral of O. P. Sackett.
     The funeral of the late Oliver P. Sackett, who died Tuesday afternoon, was held from the home of H. E. Sackett, 1510 Grant street, this morning at 10:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. J. E. Davis of the Christian church. A large number of the friends of the deceased and of the family attended the services.
     Music was given by a quartet composed of W. S. Bourne, W. W. Duncan, Mrs. Ralph Fishbach and Miss Emma Vaught. The pall bearers were Dr. A. T. Rice, E. L. Hevelone, J. L. Rhodes, J. L. Riecker, J. S. McCleery and D. W. Carre.
     The remains were taken to Cameron, Mo., the former home of the deceased, for interment.

Lottie M. Sackett, for many years a teacher in the Warren city schools, died last Sunday night at the home of W. C. Pendleton in Warren, aged 90. She was born in Canfield in 1830, but most of her life was spent in Warren. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon.

Death Of Former Macomb Citizen
Freeman Sackett Died Yesterday at His Home in Fairfield, lowa.
     From Dr. Joseph B. Monfort of Fairfield, Ia., the Journal receives news of the death of Freeman Sackett, for years a prominent citizen of this county and Macomb. He would have been 84 years old had he lived until Saturday of this week. For the past ten years, added to other infirmities, he became totally blind. He leaves a widow surviving him.
     Deceased was a native of Mahoning County, Ohio; came to Illinois young man in the early 50's. For a number of years before the war, in connection with Allen McClellan, he ran one of the few threshing machines that then did the work for the north half of the county. Quitting this, he established himself in the fat stock buying and shipping business in Macomb, which he followed for nearly twenty years; when he retired he moved to Iowa and went into the farming business on land he purchased there. He remained single until after passing the half-century of life: then went back to his native country and married Miss Lois Scott. the playmate and sweetheart of his youth. His wife is a second cousin to M. H. and Deputy Postmaster L. G. Scott of this city.
     Mr. Sackett was a man whose circle of friends was as wide as his acquaintance.

Miss Achsah Sackett Died This Morning, Aged 81.
     Miss Achsah Sackett, who has been critically ill at the Jefferson County hospital for several months, passed away this morning at 6:30 o'clock.
     Achsah Sackett, the daughter of Simmons and Eda Hays Sackett, was born at Canfield, Ohio, January 16, 1836.
     In her fifteenth year she bacame a Christian which she has lived day by day since that time.
     With her two sisters and two brothers, she came to Jefferson Co. in March 1870. The sisters at once placed their membership in the Christian church of Fairfield and continued faithful members of the church until they passed on. For several years the three taught in the Bible School. All were life members of the Christian Womens' Board of Missions.
     Miss Achsah was always in her place at the Lord's table during all these years, even on the Lord's Day, October 8th. On the 11th of October, while getting breakfast, she fell and broke her left hip. She lingered in the hospital until the morning of January 5th, passing away at about six-thirty, at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 25 days.
     She leaves an aged brother, Simmons Sackett and numerous relatives and friends to miss her in the home and church life.
     The funeral services will be held from the Christian church at 2:30 tomorrow in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly.

Mrs. S. B. Ross Passed Away
     Mrs. S. B. Ross died this morning at three o'clock at her home on South B street after only a few days illness. Her death was due to apoplexy.
     The funeral will be held Friday morning at ten o'clock at the residence and Rev. Frank V. Kearns of New London will conduct the services.
     On the 22nd of May, she was badly injured, having her right hand caught in the rolls of an electric wringer. With great fortitude she endured the suffering following the injury. Saturday night, Nov. 30th, she retired about nine o'clock saying she was better than for three or four days. A short time after eleven she was stricken with apoplexy and never regained consciousness or spoke, passing away at 3:30 o'clock, December 4th, 1912.
     Huldah Hays Sackett was born at Canfield, Ohio, July 11th, 1838, where she grew to womanhood.
     She became a Christian during her ninteenth year and has ever followed her Master, filling the place of Bible school teacher for many years. With two brothers and two sisters she came to Jefferson county in 1870, settling on a farm northwest of the city of Fairfield.
     On the 20th day of February, 1876, she was united in marriage with Samuel Bailey Ross, to become the helpmate of a struggling young preacher. During thirty-six years and in fifteen different fields, she was indeed a worker for Christ and the church, always ready to bear her full share of the burdens of a preacher's lot.
     Two boys came to their home: Fred Allen to stay with them ten days, and Willie Clark to brighten the home for ten years and three months.

Simmons Sackett Died Monday Night
     Simmons Sackett, one of the well known and most highly respected residents of Jefferson county, passed away last night at 11:30 o'clock at the home of his nephew, S.E. Chidester, nine miles northwest of the city.
     The body was brought to the home of F. G. Chidester on 301 West Washington street this morning. The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
     Simmons, Jr., son of Simmons Sackett, Sr. and Ede Hayes was born in Canfield, Ohio, on July 29th, 1840. He came to Iowa in March, 1870, with his brother Justus and his sisters Betsey, Achsah and Huldah and bought the farm known at that time, as the Ramsey farm, one and one-half miles north of this city. He moved to Fairfield in March, 1912, and resided here until about a month ago, when he went to make his home with his nephew, S. E. Chidester, and was there stricken with apoplexy ten days ago, and where he died last night. His brother and sisters have preceded him in death and he was the last surviving member of the well known Sackett family.
