Edson P Sackett, son of Erwin Sackett and Lucinda Bacon, was born in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York StateG, on 3 September 1832.1,2 He died aged 72 in Davenport, Scott County, IowaG, on 8 June 1905 and was buried at Oakdale Cemetery, DavenportG.4,3 He married in WatertownG about 1865, Caroline A Pennamon, daughter of Charles B Pennamon and Nancy A ___.3 Caroline was born in New York StateG on 1 January 1835.2,5 She died aged 75 on 28 March 1910 and was buried at Oakdale Cemetery, DavenportG.4
     Edson and his brother Cyrus were students at the Black River Literary and Religious Institute, WatertownG, in 1843.6
     In 1850 Edson was living in Watertown, Jefferson County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents Erwin and Lucinda, and was recorded in the census as Edson Sackett, a carpenter, aged 17 and born in New York.7
     In 1860 he was living at Fort Monroe, Elizabeth City County, VirginiaG, and was recorded as Edson P Sackett, aged 28, a soldier.8
     Edson served the Union in the American Civil War. He was a Corporal in Company F, 3rd Regiment, US Artillery (Regular Army). He enlisted as an artificer in WatertownG in May 1861 for three years and re-enlisted in March 1864. He was granted an invalidity pension on 14 July 1890 and Carrie was granted a widow's pension on 26 June 1905.9,10,11
     In 1870 he was living in Rock Island, Rock Island County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Edson Sackett, a carpenter, aged 40. Living with him were his wife Carrie, 36, and their children, Charles, 4, and Cyrus, aged eight months. There was also a female servant in the household.12
     In 1880 he was living in Indianapolis, Marion County, IndianaG, and was recorded as Edson P Sackett, a carpenter, aged 53 [actually 47]. Living with him were his wife Carrie A, 45, and their children, Charles, 12, and Cyrus, aged ten.13
     In 1900 he was living in Davenport, Scott County, IowaG, and was recorded as Edson P Sackett, a carpenter, aged 68. He and his wife Carrie, 66, were living in the household of their unmarried son Cyrus.14

Edson's obituary
Sackett
     At the ripe old age of 72 years, 9 months and 5 days, Edson P. Sackett, resident of Davenport for the past 37 years, passed away at 7:50 o'clock this morning at his home, 517 Brady street, after a lingering illness of complication of diseases brought on by the infirmities of old age. The deceased was born Sept. 3, 1832, in Watertown, Jefferson county, New York, and was married forty years ago in Watertown to Carrie A. Pennamon.
     Before he was married he enlisted in the Sixteenth New York cavalry serving 4 years and 3 months. He was one of the heroes of the battle of Gettysburg, Shiloh and Bull Run, and was & member of August Wentz Post, G. A. R., the members of which have charge of the funeral which will be held from the late home on Brady street Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The post will be assisted by the W. R. C., and the ladles of the G. A. R. The body will be interred in Oakdale cemetery.
     Besides his aged wife, Carrie A., there survive two sons, Cyrus W., and Charles A. Sackett.

Caroline's obituary
     Mrs. Caroline A. Sackett died yesterday at the home of her son, Cyrus Sackett, 2630 Grand avenue. Mrs. Sackett was born in Watertown, N. Y., and was the widow of E. P. Sackett, who died five years ago, She was one of the old residents of the city, having made her home here for 40 years. Two sons, Charles E. Sackett and Cyrus W. Sackett, and two sisters survive.

Sackett Funeral
     The funeral services of Mrs Caroline Sackett were held yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home of her son, Cyrus W. Sackett, 2630 Grand avenue. Many beautiful floral tributes were sent. A number of friends were present. Dr. H. 0. Rowlands officiated at the home and read committal service at the grave. The pallbearers were A. A. Alm, W. B. Day, J. G. Green, John Doonan, F. J. Lenaghen and George Ely. Burial was made in Oakdale cemetery.
