Walter John Samuel Sackett, shoe maker, of Hackney, London, son of John Richard Sackett and Catherine Hewitt, was born in Shoreditch, MiddlesexG, on 10 July 18491,2 and baptized at St John the Baptist Church, Shoreditch, MiddlesexG, on 30 September 1849.2 He died aged 74 in HackneyG in 1924.3 He married at St John's Church, ShoreditchG, on 17 December 1870, Rebecca Janet Hawkins.4,5 She was born in about 18506 and died aged 86 in HackneyG in 1936.7
In 1851 Walter was living at 14 Ashford Street, Shoreditch, LondonG, and was recorded in the census as Walter Sackett, aged one, born in Shoreditch, the son of John Sackett.8
In 1861 he was living at 10 Herbert Street, Tower Hamlets, ShoreditchG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a scholar, aged 12, born in Shoreditch, the son of John Richard Sackett.9
In 1871 he was living at 73 Great Cambridge Street, St Leonard's, ShoreditchG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a clicker, head of household, married, aged 21 and born in Shoreditch. Living with him was his wife Rebecca, 21.10
In 1881 he was living at 6 Montague Road, HackneyG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a boot checker, head of household, married, aged 31 and born in Shoreditch. Living with him were his wife Rebecca, 31, and their children, Horace, 9, Emily, 8, and Florence, aged six.11
In 1891 he was living at 6 Montague Road, Hackney, MiddlesexG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a boot and shoe manufacturer (employed), head of household, married, aged 40, and born in Shoreditch. Living with him were his wife Rebecca, aged 39, and born in Shoreditch, and their children, Horace, 19, Emily, 18, Florence, 16, and Walter, aged six.12
In 1901 he was living at 6 Montague Road, Dalston, Hackney, LondonG, and was recorded as Walter John S Sackett, a traveller in the boot and shoe trade, head of household, married, aged 51, and born in Shoreditch. Living with him were his wife Rebecca, aged 51, and born in Bethnal Green, and their children, Emily (27), Florence (26), and Walter (16).13
Walter and his brother Roland proved their father John's will in LondonG on 20 October 1905. His estate was valued at £1,111.14
In 1911 he was living at 21 Norfolk Road, Dalston, Hackney, LondonG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a boot cutter, head of household, aged 61 and born in Shoreditch. Living with him were his wife Rebecca, 61, and their married daughter Emily, 37.15
In 1921 he was living at 84 Sandringham Road, HackneyG, and was recorded as Walter Sackett, a retired leather cutter, head of household, aged 71. Living with him were his wife Rebecca, 71, and their widowed daughter Emily Rhodes, 48.16
