Edward Arthur Sackett, coal stevedore, son of Richard Sackett and Sarah Bristow, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 18701,2 and baptized at St George's Church, Ramsgate, KentG, on 25 December 1870.3 He died aged 43 in Thanet, KentG, in 1914.4 He married at St John in Thanet, KentG, on 16 June 1895, Isabella Elizabeth Gibbs, daughter of Samuel Richard Gibbs.5,6 After Edward's death, Isabella married second at St Luke's Church, RamsgateG, on 23 February 1920 Alfred Peter Brown, son of William Brown.7,8,9
In 1871 Edward was living at 7 Leopold Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents Richard and Sarah, and was recorded in the census as Edward A Sackett, aged five months and born in Ramsgate.10
In 1881 he was living at 12 Leopold Street, RamsgateG, in the household of his parents Richard and Sarah, and was recorded as Edward A Sackett, aged ten and born in Ramsgate.11
In 1891 he was living at 7 Turner Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his mother Sarah and stepfather James Hunter, and was recorded as Edward A Sackett, a general labourer, unmarried, aged 20.12
Edward served as a sapper in the Royal Engineers, enlisting at Gravesend, KentG, on 9 July 1896. He was discharged on 31 July 1907 after 11 years' service, some of it as a reservist.13
In 1901 he was living at 8 Frederick Place, Hereson Road, Ramsgate, KentG, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, a self-employed harbour porter, head of household, aged 29. Living with him were his wife [Isabella] Elizabeth, 27, their children, Amy, 4, and Rosie, aged three, and Isabella's sister, Clara Gibbs, 15.14
In 1911 he was living at Ada Cottage, Farley Place, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Edward Arthur Sackett, a stevedore in the coal trade, aged 39. Living with him were his wife Isabella, 37, and their children, Amy, 15, Rose, 14, Edward, 9, Kitty, 4, and Olive, aged ten months. Also in the household were Edward's widowed sister Amy Wilkinson, 34, Isabella's unmarried brother Herbert, 31, and a niece, Olive Pierce, and her husband Frederick.15
In 1921 Edward's widow Isabella was living at 10 Judith Villas, Clements Road, St Lawrence in ThanetG, in the household of her second husband Alfred Brown, 44, a general labourer, and was recorded in the census as Isabella Elizabeth Brown, aged 46. Living with them were Isabella's children, Edward, 19, Kitty, 14, and Olive, aged eleven.16
