Richard Sackett, son of Robert George Sackett and Judith Fegen, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 18441 and baptized at St George's Church, RamsgateG, on 6 April 1845.2 He died aged 40 in Thanet, KentG, in 1885.3 He married in ThanetG in 1865, Sarah Bristow.4 After Richard's death, Sarah married second in St Paul's Church, RamsgateG, on 14 September 1890, James Richard Hunter.5
     In 1851 Richard was living at 12 York Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents Robert and Judith, and was recorded in the census as Richard Sackett, a scholar, aged six and born in Ramsgate.6
     In 1861 he was living at 3 Leopold Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents Robert and Judith, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a labourer, aged 16 and born in Ramsgate.7
     Richard joined the ship "Prince Fredrick William" at Dover, KentG, on 25 April 1863 as an ordinary seaman, plying the cross-channel routes from Dover to Calais and Ostend. He left the ship on 19 June 1863. He had previously worked on the ship "Energy" of Ramsgate in 1860.8
     In 1871 he was living at 7 Leopold Street, Ramsgate, KentG, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a boatman, head of household, married, aged 24 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 23, and born in Minster, Kent, and their children, Walter, 5, Frances, 2, and Edward, aged five months.9
     In 1881 he was living at 12 Leopold Street, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Richard Sackett, a boatman, head of household, married, aged 36 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Sarah, 36, and their children, Walter, 16, Frances, 12, Edward, 10, Amy, 5, and Margaret, aged two.10
     In 1891 Richard's widow Sarah was living at 7 Turner Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of her second husband James Hunter, 54, a general labourer, and was recorded in the census as Sarah Hunter, aged 45, and born in Minster. Living with them were Sarah's children, Frances, 23, Edward, 20, Amy, 15), and Margaret, 12, and granddaughter Albina Sackett, aged four months.11
