Alfred Sackett, merchant mariner, son of Jeremiah Sackett and Dinah Farley, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 18421,2 and baptized at St George's Church, RamsgateG, on 29 May 1842.3 He died aged 88 in Newton Abbot, DevonG, on 6 April 19314 and was buried at Teignmouth Cemetery, DevonG.6 He married say 1866, Eliza Crideford.5 She was born in Bishopsteignton, DevonG, about 1846.2 She died aged 70 in Newton AbbotG on 2 January 19167 and was buried at Teignmouth CemeteryG.6
     In 1851 Alfred was living at Pegwell, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, in the household of his parents Jeremiah and Dinah, and was recorded in the census as A Sackett, a scholar, aged nine and born in St Lawrence.8
     In 1871 Alfred's wife was living at Model Cottages, Dimonds Lane, West Teignmouth, DevonG, and was recorded in the census as Elizabeth Sackett, the wife of a mariner, head of household, married, aged 26, and born in Teignmouth. Living with her were her children, Alfred, 4, and Kate, aged 15 months. A census record for Alfred, who may have been at sea at the time, has not been found.9
     In 1881 Alfred was living at 12 Park Street, West Teignmouth, DevonG, and was recorded in the census as Alfred Sackett, a mariner, head of household, married, aged 38 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Eliza, 35, and their children, Alfred, 14, Kate, 11, Dinah, 8, George, 5, Benjamin, 3, and Bella, aged one.10
     In 1901 he was living at 33 Teign Street, TeignmouthG, and was recorded as Alfred Sackett, head of household, aged 58. Living with him were his wife Eliza, 56, and their children, Dinah, 27, Eliza, 16, Ann, 14, and Richard, aged twelve.11
     In 1911 he was living at 33 Teign StreetG and was recorded as Alfred Sackett, retired mariner, merchant service, head of household, aged 68 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Eliza, 65, and their son Richard, 21.12
     In 1921 he was living at 33 Teign Street, TeignmouthG, and was recorded as Alfred Sackett, a widower, aged 79.13

Katherine Sackett, daughter of Jeremiah Sackett and Dinah Farley, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 18521,2 and baptized at St Lawrence in ThanetG on 22 February 1852.3 She died aged 55 in St Lawrence in ThanetG on 24 September 19074 and was buried at St Lawrence in ThanetG.8 She married at Ramsgate Christ Church, KentG, on 4 August 1875, Alfred William Smith, a tax officer, son of William Chandlers Smith and Sarah Frances ___.5,6,7 He was born in RamsgateG in 18532,9 and baptized at St George's Church, RamsgateG, on 25 June 1854.10 He died aged 75 in St Thomas, Exeter, DevonG, on 26 February 1929.11,12

Living with them were their children, Francis, 4, Isabel, 3, Ethel, 2, and Frances, aged one. There was also a 13-year-old female domestic servant in the household.14
     In 1891 she was living at 6 Myrtle Terrace, Canterbury, KentG, in the household of her husband Alfred, 37, a photographer, and was recorded as Catherine Smith, aged 39 and born in Ramsgate.
