Mary Sackett
Mother | Mary Sackett (1780-1859) |
Mary Sackett, daughter of Mary Sackett, was born in St John in Thanet, KentG, on 4 June 1800 and baptized there on 13 July 1800.1 She died aged 81 in Headington, Oxford, OxfordshireG, on 21 September 18812 and was buried at Greenwich Cemetery, Greenwich, LondonG.4 She married at Trinity Church, St Marylebone, MiddlesexG, on 20 June 1839, Rev Thomas James Dallin, son of Rev Robert Dallin and Mary Ann Cock.3 Thomas was born in St Anne Soho, Westminster, LondonG, on 17 October 1802.5,4 He died aged 62 at Shooters Hill, GreenwichG, on 13 January 1865 and was buried at Greenwich CemeteryG.4
Mary was named in her marriage record as "Mary Sackett commonly called Lidgbird". As Mary was already an adult, aged 20, when her mother married Francis Lidgbird, it would seem unlikely that he would have been her father. Against this, Francis had made his will just four days after marriage, and this may suggest a longer-term relationship.
In 1841 Mary was living at Shooters Hill, Plumstead, KentG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 39, a teacher, and was recorded in the census as Mary Dallen, aged 40 and born in Kent. Also in the household were their son Thomas, aged 16 weeks, Mary's mother Mary Lidgbird, 60, and mother-in-law Mary Dallen, 70.6
In 1851 she was living at Wickham House, Shooters Hill, PlumsteadG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 48, minister of Shooters Hill Chapel, and was recorded as Mary Dallin, aged 50 and born in Margate. Living with them were their children, Thomas, 10, and Robert, aged eight. Mary's widowed mother Mary Lidgbird, 70, was also in the household. There was also a female domestic servant.7
In 1861 she was living at Shrewsbury Lane, PlumsteadG, in the household of her husband Thomas, 58, minister of Shooters Hill Capel, and was recorded as Mary Dallin, aged 60. Their son, Robert, 18, was living with them. There were also a cook and a housemaid in the household.8
In 1871 she was living at 7 Norham Gardens, St Giles, OxfordG, in the household of her son Thomas and daughter-in-law Edith, and was recorded as Mary Dallin, a land owner, aged 70.9
In 1881 she was living at 13 Norham Gardens, St Giles, OxfordG, in the household of her widowed daughter-in-law Edith, 30, and was recorded as Mary Dallin, an annuitant, aged 81.10
Mary left a will which was proved on 23 January 1882 by her son Robert and by William Watson as executors. Her personal estate was valued at £243.11
