John Sackett, wheelwright, son of John Sackett and Elizabeth Pilcher, was born in Margate, KentG, in 18381,2 and baptized at St John in ThanetG on 2 December 1838.2 He died aged 77 in Eastry, KentG, in 1916.3 He married in EastryG in 1860, Maria Smith.4 Maria was born in Ash next Sandwich, KentG, in about 18405 and died aged 79 in EastryG in 1919.6
In 1841 John was living in St Peter's, Sandwich, KentG, in the household of his grandparents, James and Mary Pilcher, and was recorded in the census as John Sackett, aged two and born in Kent.7
In 1861 he was living at Love Lane, Sandwich, KentG, and was recorded as John Sackett, a wheelwright, head of household, married, aged 22 and born at Margate. Living with him was his wife Maria aged 21 and born at Ash, Kent. Also in the household was a visiting baby, Charles John Smith.8
In 1871 he was living at Felderland, Worth, KentG, and was recorded as John Sackett, a wheelwright, head of household, married, aged 32 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Maria, 31, and their children, James, 7, Elizabeth, 5, Susan, 3, and William, aged eleven months.9

Living with him were his wife Maria, aged 61 and born in Ash, their unmarried sons John, 26, and Frank, 19, and their grandson Cecil, aged seven.11
