Edward Sackett, ironmonger, son of Edward Sackett and Louisa Pegden, was born in Margate, KentG, in 1848.1,2 He died aged 70 at home in 83 Grant Road, Addiscombe, Croydon, SurreyG, on 27 July 1919.3,4 He married in St Mary Magdalen, Woolwich, KentG, on 17 April 1874, Jane Logan, daughter of John Logan.5,6,7 Jane was born in Guildford, SurreyG, in about 18476 and died aged 61 at home in The Elms, Hamsey Green, Warlingham, SurreyG, on 17 September 1908.8,4
In 1851 Edward was living at 139 High Street, St John's, MargateG, in the household of his parents Edward and Louisa, and was recorded in the census as Edward Sackett, aged two, and born in Margate.9
In 1871 he was living at 31 & 32 Hare Street, WoolwichG, in the household of his parents Edward and Louisa, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, a shop man, unmarried, aged 22, and born in Margate.10
In 1881 he was living at 4 Alexandra Terrace, Lower Addiscombe Road, CroydonG, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, an ironmonger employing two men and one boy, head of household, married, aged 32, and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Jane, aged 33, and born in Guildford, and their children Edward, 6, John, 4, and Alfred, aged five months. Also in the household was a visitor, Florance Logan, perhaps Jane's sister or a niece.11
Edward was appointed an executor, with his sister Louisa, of his father's will, proved on 23 August 1884.12
In 1891 he was living at 19 Hare Street, Woolwich, LondonG, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, a self-employed ironmonger, head of household, married, aged 42 and born in Margate. Living with him were his wife Jane, 43, and son Alfred, aged ten.13
On 5 April 1897, Edward retired from the ironmongery firm which he had owned in partnership with his brother John, leaving John as the sole proprietor.14
In 1901 he was living at The Elms, Croydon Road, Warlingham, SurreyG, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, living on own means, head of household, married, aged 52, and born in Margate, Kent. Living with him were his wife Jane, aged 53, and born in Guildford, Surrey, and their son Alfred, aged 20.15
Edward proved his wife Jane's will in LondonG on 9 December 1908. Her estate was valued at £634.16
In 1911 he was living at Ivy Lodge, Sanderstead Road, Sanderstead, SurreyG, in the household of his son Alfred and daughter-in-law Fanny, and was recorded as Edward Sackett, a retired ironmonger, a widower, aged 62 and born in Margate.17
Edward left a will which was proved on 29 August 1919 by his son Alfred. His estate was valued at £1,929.18
