Augustus Russell Sackett

Augustus Russell Sackett, a farmer, son of Abraham Sackett and Lucy P ___, was born probably in VermontG in about 1810.1 He died aged about 62 in about 1872 and was buried at Fenelon Falls Cemetery, Ontario, CanadaG.2 He married in Cobourg, Northumberland County, OntarioG, on 22 October 1837, Mary Haw, daughter of Joseph Haw and Mary Morse.3 Mary was born in Swaby, Lincolnshire, EnglandG, on 17 February 18184,2 and baptized there on 18 February 1818.5 She died aged 84 in Grey County, EgremontG, on 20 January 19036 and was buried at Swinton Park Cemetery, Grey County, OntarioG.
In 1850 Augustus was living in Canton, St Lawrence County, New York StateG, and was recorded in the census as Augustus Sackett, a cooper, aged 40 and born in Vermont. Living with him were his wife Mary, 34, and their children, Caroline, 11, Abraham, 9, George, 8, Henry, 4, Lucy, 3, and Narzett, aged one.7
Augustus and Mary's son George is recorded in the 1911 census as having emigrated from the United States to Canada in 1852; it may be assumed that Augustus's complete family moved at this time.
In 1861 he was living in Darlington, Durham County, CanadaG, and was recorded as Agustus Sackett, a cooper, aged 50. Living with him were his wife Mary, 43, and their children, Abraham, 21, George, 19, Lucy, 15, Marzet?, 13, Cornelia, 11, and a female whose name is illegible, aged seven.8
In 1871 he was living in Victoria County, Ontario, CanadaG, and was recorded as Augustus Sacket, 60 and born in the United States. Living with him were his wife Mary, 53, and their children, Abraham, 30, Lucy, 25, Cornelia, 20, and Emogine [sic], aged 17.9
Augustus's widow Mary was recorded in the census of 1901 living in Egremont with their son George and daughter-in-law Eva.4
