George Edward Sackett, farmer, son of Augustus Russell Sackett and Mary Haw, was born in Canton, St Lawrence County, New York StateG, on 19 April 1842.1,2 He died aged 78 at 6 Afton Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, CanadaG, on 28 February 1921.3 He married first in Bowmanville, Northumberland and Durham County, Ontario, CanadaG, on 10 December 1862, Martha Anne Cochrane, daughter of Alex Cochrane and Ann ___.4,5 Martha was born in IrelandG in about 1842.6,5 She died in childbirth in 1880 and was buried at Swinton Park Cemetery, Grey CountyG.5 He married second in Priceville, Grey County, OntarioG, on 21 November 1883, Eva Jane (Ernest) Lapslie, a first cousin, daughter of William Ernest and Mariah Haw, and widow of Russell Lapslie.7,5 Eva was born in Darlington, OntarioG, on 18 January 1854.8,9 She died aged 58 in Grey County, OntarioG, on 30 July 191210 and was buried at Swinton Park CemeteryG.5
In 1850 George was living in Canton, St Lawrence County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents Augustus and Mary, and was recorded in the census as George E Sackett, aged eight and born in New York.11
In 1861 he was living in Darlington, Durham County, CanadaG, in the household of his parents Augustus and Mary, and was recorded as George Sackett, aged 19.12
In 1871 he was living in Egremont, Grey County, Ontario, CanadaG, and was recorded as George Sackett, aged 30 and born in the United States. Living with him were his wife Martha, 30, and their children, Mary, 4, and William, aged one.13
In 1881 he was living in EgremontG and was recorded as George Sackett, a farmer, married, aged 39, and born in Nova Scotia. Living with him were his wife Martha, and their children, Mary, 15, William, 12, and Arthur, aged four.14
In 1901 he was living in EgremontG and was recorded as George Sackett, head of household, married, aged 58, born 19 April 1843. Living with him were his wife Eva, aged 47, and his mother Mary, aged 83.8
In 1911 he was living in EgremontG and was recorded as George Sackett, a merchant, head of household, married, aged 69, born April 1842 in the USA, immigrated to Canada 1852. Living with him was his wife Eva, 59. Also in the household was an 86-year-old male lodger. George's son William was living next door.15
