Rufus William Sackett, merchant of Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, son of Rufus Sackett and Frances Parsons, was born in NorthamptonG on 25 December 1830.1,2 He died there aged 58 on 5 December 1889.1,2 He married on 6 May 1851, Sarah Maria Janes, daughter of Samuel Patrick Janes and Sarah Parsons.1,2 Sarah Maria Janes was born in NorthamptonG on 2 October 1832.2 She died there on 22 January 1879.2,3
In 1850 Rufus was living in NorthamptonG in the household of his parents Rufus and Frances, and was recorded in the census as Rufus W Sackett, a clerk, aged 19 and born in Massachusetts.4
In 1870 he was living in NorthamptonG and was recorded as Rufus W Sackett, a furniture driver and jobber, aged 39. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 37, and born in Massachusetts, and their children, Sarah, 18, John, 16, Henry, 14, Elizabeth, 11, Willie, 9, Minnie, 7, Nathaniel, 5, and Eva, aged three.5
Rufus was named as a beneficiary in his father's will made in NorthamptonG.6
