Walter Richard Sackett, son of Richard Sackett and Sarah Bristow, was born in Thanet, KentG, in 18661 and baptized at St George's Church, Ramsgate, KentG, on 28 January 1866.2 He died aged 39 in ThanetG in 1905.3 He married at St Luke's Church, RamsgateG, on 18 February 1888, Mary Ann Bligh, daughter of Frederick Bligh.4,5 Mary was born in RamsgateG in about 1865.6,7 After Walter's death, Mary married second at St Luke's ChurchG on 9 March 1911 Charles Henry Buckley, a hawker, son of William Henry Buckley.8,9
In 1871 Walter was living at 7 Leopold Street, Ramsgate, KentG, in the household of his parents Richard and Sarah, and was recorded in the census as Walter Sackett, a scholar, aged five and born in Ramsgate.10
In 1881 he was living at 12 Leopold Street, RamsgateG, in the household of his parents Richard and Sarah, and was recorded as Walter R Sackett, aged 16 and born in Ramsgate.11
In 1891 he was living at 10 Castle Road, St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, and was recorded as Walter R Sackett, a general labourer, head of household, married, aged 25 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Mary, aged 23 and born in Ramsgate, and their children, Walter, 3, and Olivia, aged one month.12
In 1901 he was living at 1 Salem Cottages, King Street, RamsgateG, and was recorded as Walter R Sackett, a boat porter, head of household, married, aged 34 and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Mary, 35, and their children, Edward, 13, Olive, 11, Lizzie, 8, Kate, 3, and Maggie, aged seven months.13
In 1911 Walter's widow Mary was living at 7 Edith Cottages, Margate Road, RamsgateG, in the household of her second husband Charles Henry Buckley, 30, a hawker, and was recorded in the census as Mary Ann Buckley, aged 43 and born in Ramsgate. Living with them were Mary Ann's Sackett children, Elizabeth, 16, Kate Florence, 13, and Minnie, 7, and her two-month-old son Charles W Henry Buckley.14
In 1921 she was living at 7 Judith Villas, Clements Road, St Lawrence in ThanetG, and was recorded as Mary A Buckley, married, head of household, aged 53. Living with her were her children of her first marriage, Olive Pierse, 30, (with her three children), Elizabeth Smith, 24, (with her husband and her daughter), and Amy Sackett, 18; and her son of her second marriage, Charles Buckley, aged ten.15
