Lemuel H Sackett, son of Russel Sackett and Polly Brass, was born in Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 28 May 1821.1,2 He died there aged 36 on 22 November 1857 and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, WestfieldG.8 He married at the First Church, Springfield, Hampden CountyG, on 25 June 1849, Lydia Chapman, daughter of Asa Chapman and Lucretia ___.3,4,5,6,7 Lydia was born in WestfieldG in December 1824.9 After Lemuel's death she married second in Westfield on 18 December 1860, Hiram K Caswell, son of Hiram Caswell and Lucinda ___.10,11 She died aged 92 on 24 August 1917 and was buried at Pine Hill Cemetery, WestfieldG.12,13
In 1850 Lemuel was living in WestfieldG and was recorded in the census as Lemuel Sacket, a mason, aged 29, and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Lydia, aged 28, and born in Massachusetts, and their four-month-old son Samuel.14
In 1855 he was living in WestfieldG in the household of Rachael Sacket, 70, and was recorded as Lemuel Sacket, a mason, aged 34. Living with him were his wife Lydia, 33, and their children, Samuel, 5, Emma, 4, and Lydia, aged two. Rachael Sacket would have been Rachel Morse, widow of Lemuel's father Russel's first cousin John Sacket.15
In 1860 Lemuel's widow Lydia was living in WestfieldG and was recorded in the census as Lydia Sacket, a washerwoman, aged 40 and born in Massachusetts. Living with her was her daughter Fanny, aged two.16
In 1870 she was living in WestfieldG in the household of her husband Hiram, 37, and was recorded as Liddie Caswell, keeping house, aged 46. Living with them was their son, Hiram Caswell, 8, and Lydia's daughters, Fanny Sackett, 12, and Sophia Sackett, 17.17
In 1880 she was living in Greenwich, Hampshire County, MassachusettsG, in the household of her husband Hiram Caswell, a farm laborer, and was recorded as Lydia Caswell, housekeeper, aged 58.18
In 1900 she was living in GreenwichG in the household of her husband Hiram, and was recorded as Lydia Caswell, born in Massachusetts in December 1824, aged 75, married 40 years, with six children of whom three were living.19 Lydia was also enumerated in the 1900 census in the household of her daughter Fannie and son-in-law Herbert Sackett in WestfieldG.20
In 1850 Lemuel was living in WestfieldG and was recorded in the census as Lemuel Sacket, a mason, aged 29, and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Lydia, aged 28, and born in Massachusetts, and their four-month-old son Samuel.14
