Captain John Sackett, son of William Sackett and Anna Lawrence, was born in Newtown, Long Island, New York StateG, on 27 July 17551 and baptized at the Presbyterian Church, NewtownG, on 28 September 1755.2 He died aged 63 on 12 May 1819.1 He married about 1783, Elizabeth Gibbs.1,3 Elizabeth was baptized as an adult at Presbyterian Church, NewtownG, on 15 December 1790, her children William and Lawrence being baptized at the same time.4 She died in Newtown, Long IslandG, on 27 May 1836.5
John Sackett was a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. He was later commissioned in the Militia, becoming Captain of the Queens County Regiment in 1793.6
John was named as a beneficiary in his father's will made in Newtown, Long IslandG, on 7 June 1798. He was left the farm in Newtown.7
John was listed in the 1810 census as a householder in NewtownG.8
In 1820 John's widow Elizabeth was listed as the householder, the household comprising 17 persons, including six slaves.9 She was a householder there in 1830.10

388. Capt. John Sackett, 1755–1819, of Newtown, L. I., son of (122) William and Anne Lawrence Sackett, was married to Elisabeth Gibbs of Connecticut. Mr. Sackett was a Revolutionary soldier. He served in the ranks of Col. John Harper's Levies and in other commands. After the war he took an active part in reorganization of the Militia, and in 1798 was commissioned First Lieutenant of Capt. Remson's Company of the Queens County Regiment, and served as such until 1793, when he succeeded Capt. Remson and commanded his company until 1804.
