Augustine Sackett Cooley, son of James Smedley Cooley and Mary Elizabeth Sackett, was born in Canandaigua, New York StateG, on 14 July 1856.1 He died at his home on Gibson Street in CanandaiguaG on 9 November 19201 and was buried at Woodlawn Cemetery, CanandaiguaG.1 He married at CanandaiguaG on 28 August 1883, Harriet Cornelia Reed, daughter of William Allen Reed and Esther A Paddock. Harriet was born at Seneca Castle, New York StateG, on 24 October 1860.1
Cooley Genealogy—Augustine S. Cooley lived his entire life in Canandaigua. Upon finishing his course at Canandaigua Academy, he engaged at once in the family hardware business, with which he was identified until his death, first as an assistant to his father, then as a partner, and then in patnership with his cousin, Albert Eugene Cooley; and finally as the head of the firm which became A.S. Cooley & Co.
Mr. Cooley never held public office, but was a member of the village fire department for several years, one of the organizers of the Canandaigua Street Railroad Company, secretary of the Ontario County Agricultural Society, and a leader in the local mercantile world; and as a citizen, he earned an enviable reputation for enterprise and integrity. Of quiet and unassuming manner, he was a loyal friend and neighbor. He was a member of the Congregational church.
