Stephen Elijah Reed, farmer, son of Elijah Fitch Reed and Mary Jacobia, was born in New York StateG on 4 April 1826.1,2 He died aged 82 on 13 November 19083,4 and was buried at Vischer Ferry Cemetery, Saratoga County, New York StateG.4 He married on 23 December 1846, Rachel Ann Fonda, daughter of Jacob J Fonda and Maria Myers.1 Rachel was born on 15 January 1827.4 She died aged 60 on 4 March 18874 and was buried at Vischer Ferry CemeteryG.4
     In 1850 Stephen was living at Clifton Park, Saratoga County, New York StateG, in the household of his parents Elijah and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Stephen Reed, a farmer, aged 24 and born in New York. Living with him were his wife Rachel, 22, and their children, Mary Esther, 3, and Farristena, aged one.5
     In 1880 he was living at Vischers Ferry, Clifton Park, Saratoga CountyG, and was recorded as Stephen Reed, a farmer, aged 54 and born in New York. Living with him were his wife Rachel, 53, their children, Maggie, 17, and Arthetta, 15, and Stephen's widowed brother Van Ranslan, 52.6
