John Dempster Sackett, son of Samuel Sackett and Sarah Wright, was born in Lewis County, New York StateG, on 22 November 1822.1,2,3 He died aged 70 in Saranac, Ionia County, MichiganG, on 12 May 18934,5 and was buried at Saranac Cemetery, Ionia County, MichiganG.2 He married first in Lowville, Lewis County, New York StateG, on 25 December 1845, Clarissa Searl.6 Clarissa was born in about 1824.7 She died aged 23 on 22 May 1847 and was buried at the City Cemetery, Norwich, New London County, ConnecticutG.8,9,10 He married second in Fayetteville, Onondaga County, New York StateG, in 1852, Sylvia A Wheelock.1 Sylvia was born in Jefferson County, New York StateG, on 26 April 1821.3,11 She died aged 52 on 14 August 1873 and was buried at Saranac CemeteryG.2 He married third Lucinda B Arthur, daughter of William Arthur and Mary Bostwick.3 Lucinda was born in New York StateG on 20 October 1838.3,12 She died aged 88 at the Ionia County Home, Berlin, Ionia County, MichiganG, on 20 December 1926 and was buried at Saranac CemeteryG.13
     In 1855 John was living in Mexico, Oswego County, New York StateG, and was recorded in the census as John D Sackett, a pedlar, aged 33 and born in Lewis County. Living with him were his second wife, Sylvia, 33, John's daughter Clarissa, 8, and John's widowed mother Sarah, 64.14
     In 1860 he was living in Boston, Ionia County, MichiganG, and was recorded as John D Sackett, a clerk, aged 32 [actually 37] and born in New York. Living with him were his wife Sylvia, 33 [actually 39], John's daughter Clarissa, 13, and John's mother Sarah, 61 [actually 68].15
     John registered for the Civil War draft in MichiganG in June 1863 or July 1863. He was a laborer of Boston, Michigan, aged 40 and was registered lame.16
     In 1870 he was living in Saranac, Ionia County, MichiganG, and was recorded as John D Sacket, a speculator, aged 41 [actually 47]. Living with him were his wife, 42 [actually 49], and their daughter Dolly, aged six.17
     In 1880 he was living in Saranac, Ionia County, MichiganG, and was recorded as John D Sackett, a dealer in agriculture implements, head of household, married, aged 50 [actually 57]. Living with him were his third wife Lucinda, 40, and Lucinda's widowed mother, Mary Arthur, 67.18
     John died intestate. Administration of his estate was granted in 1893 by the Probate Court, Ionia County, to his widow, Lucinda B Sackett. She and John's daughter, Clara A Davis, then living in Wisconsin, were the sole heirs. They agreed between them that Clara should receive $1,225, with Lucinda receiving the balance of estate of some $3,000, including John and Lucinda's homestead in Saranac.19
     In 1900 John's widow Lucinda, aged 61, was living at Boston, Ionia County, MichiganG. Her widowed mother Mary, 88, was living with her.20
