Gad Sheldon Sacket, son of Joel Sacket and Abigail Sheldon, was born in MassachusettsG on 15 August 18071,2 and baptized at the Church of Christ, Westfield, Hampden County, MassachusettsG, on 13 December 1807.3 He died aged 64 on 19 July 1872 and was buried at Turin CemeteryG.4,5 He married Elmina Miller, daughter of James Miller and Sally Coe.4 Elmina was born on 1 February 1807.6,7 She died aged 75 in TurinG on 5 April 18826 and was buried at Turin CemeteryG.4,8
Gad was in Turin, Lewis County, New York StateG, by about 1830 when he bought a farm in the woods on the western part of the town, on which there was a small clearing and a log cabin.9
He was listed in the 1840 census as a householder in TurinG.10
In 1850 Gad was living in TurinG and was recorded in the census as Sheldon Sacket, a farmer, aged 43 and born in Massachusetts. Living with him were his wife Elmina, 44, and their children, (Martin) James, 17, Lucina, 15, Lydia, 11, George, 8, Harrison (Alson), 6, and Charles, aged two.11
In 1860 he was living in TurinG and was recorded as Gad S Sackett, a farmer, aged 53. Living with him were his wife Elmina, 53, and their children, Lydia, 21, George, 18, Alson, 15, Charles, 11, and (Martin) James, 28, with his wife Susan, 23.12
Gad was appointed to a special War Committee in TurinG on 19 July 1864, to borrow money for Civil War bounties until the money could be raised by a tax.13
In 1870 he was living in TurinG and was recorded as Gad S Sackett, a farmer, aged 63. His wife Elmina, 63, was living with him.14
Gad died intestate. His sons, Martin and George, were appointed administrators of his estate at the County Court in Lowville, Lewis CountyG, on 16 August 1872.15
