John William Sackett, cab driver, son of William Sackett and Mary Ann Greenwood, was born in Ramsgate, KentG, in 1865.1,2 He was possibly the John Sackett who died aged 62 in Fulham, LondonG, in 1923.6 He married at St Saviour, Battersea, SurreyG, on 23 August 1885, Jessie Parker, daughter of Henry Charles Parker.3,4,5 She was born in Kensington, MiddlesexG, about 18652 and died in Fulham, LondonG, in 1926.7
In 1871 John was living at 24 Artillery Row, Westminster, LondonG, in the household of his parents William and Mary, and was recorded in the census as John W Sackett, aged five and born in Ramsgate.8
In 1881 he was living at 7 Kramer Mews, London, MiddlesexG, in the household of his parents William and Mary, and was recorded as John Sackett, aged 16, and born in Ramsgate.9
In 1891 he was living at 49 Chesson Road, FulhamG, and was recorded as John Sackett, a cab driver, head of household, married, aged 26 and born in Fulham [sic: Ramsgate]. Living with him were his wife Jessie, 25, and their children, John, 4, and Harry, aged one.10
In 1901 he was living at 20 Werley Avenue, St Peter's, Fulham, LondonG, and was recorded as John Sackett, a cab driver, head of household, married, aged 35, and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Jessie, aged 35, and born in Kensington, and their children, Henry, 11, Jessie, 9, Hilda, 3, and Walter, aged three months. Recorded as visitors in the household were William and Sarah Greenwood and their seven children. William Greenwood was John's brother.11
In 1911 he was living at 50 Orbain Road, FulhamG, and was recorded as John Sackett, a cabman driver, head of household, aged 47. Living with him were his wife Jessie, 46, and their children, Alice, 18, Henry, 21, and Walter, aged eleven.12
In 1921 he was living at 4 Kenneth Road, FulhamG, and was recorded as John Sackett, a horsecab driver, head of household, aged 60 [actually 56]. His wife Jessie, 60 [also about 56], was living with him. Also in the household (which comprised a total of fifteen persons) were their sons, Walter and Henry, with their wives and families, and a Harding family of four who were lodging there.13
