Lieutenant Charles Duncan Sackett, farmer, son of Elijah Gibson Sackett and Malinda Lee, was born in OhioG on 17 December 1840.1,2 He died aged 86 in Adair County, IowaG, on 15 November 1927 and was buried at Greenfield Cemetery, Adair CountyG.3 He married Mary Ann Gordon.1 She was born in OhioG in about 1843.2
     In 1850 Charles was living in Berlin, Delaware County, OhioG, in the household of his parents Elijah and Malinda, and was recorded in the census as Charles Sackett, aged nine and born in Ohio.4
     In 1860 he was living in Bloomington, McLean County, IllinoisG, in the household of his parents Elijah and Malinda, and was recorded as Charles Sackett, aged 20.5
     Charles served in the American Civil War in the 3rd Regiment, Illinois Cavalry, from 1861 to 1865, attaining the rank of Lieutenant.1,6
     In 1870 he was living in Padua, McLean County, IllinoisG, and was recorded as Charles Sackett, a farmer, aged 29. Living with him were his wife Mary, 27, and their children, George, 4, Lucy, 3, and Arthur, aged four months.7
     In 1880 Charles was living in Grove, Adair County, IowaG, and was recorded in the census as Charles Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 39 and born in Ohio. Living with him were his wife Mary, 37, and their children, George, 15, Lucy, 13, Arthur, 10, Mabel, 8, Gertrude, 6, Abraham, 4, Charles, 2, and Bertha, aged ten months.2

4513. Lieut. Charles D. Sackett, 1840–, of Delaware, O., and Greenfield, Iowa, son of (1810) Elijah G. and Malinda Lee Sackett, was married to ___ ___. On Aug. 2, 1861, he enlisted in the 3d Ill. Cavalry and remained in the service until Dec. 25, 1865, when he was mustered out with the rank of Lieutenant. His regiment during the greater part of its term of service was attached to division commanded by General Hatch, and is officially credited with a death roll of 275 officers and men, and with severe and efficient service.
