Henry Samuel Sackett, fellmonger of Bermondsey, Surrey, son of John Sackett and Louisa ___, was born in Rotherhithe, SurreyG, on 22 February 18111 and baptized at St Mary's Church, RotherhitheG, on 19 April 1812.1 He died aged 74 in St Olave Southwark, SurreyG, in 1885.2 He married at St Giles Church, Camberwell, SurreyG, on 13 July 1834, Martha Paterson.3 Martha was born in BermondseyG on 20 May 18164 and died in St Olave Southwark, LondonG, in 1896.5
In 1841 Henry was living at 18 Marigold Ct, St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, SurreyG, and was recorded in the census as Henry Sackett, a fellmonger, aged 30 and born in Surrey. The other members of his household were his wife Martha, aged 28, also born in Surrey, and their three sons, Henry, aged 8, James, 6, and Edward, 4.6
In 1851 Henry's wife Martha was living at 3 Castle Street, St George, Camberwell, SurreyG, and was recorded as Martha Sackett, wife, aged 33, and born in Bermondsey. Living with her were their children Henry, 15, James, 13, Edward, 11, Samuel, 7, and a 7-month-old son whose name is not legible. [This would be Jauwen.] It is not known whether Henry was omitted in error from this record or whether he was elsewhere on the census day.7
In 1871 Henry was living at 23 Grange Road, St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, SurreyG, and was recorded in the census as Henry Sackett, a fellmonger, head of household, aged 59 and born in Bermondsey. Living with him were his wife Martha, 54, and their grandson Charles Sackett, aged one.8
In 1881 he was living at 29 Pages Walk, Bermondsey, SurreyG, and was recorded as Henry S Sackett, a fellmonger, head of household, married, aged 69, and born in Bermondsey. Liivng with him were his wife Martha aged 64 and born in Bermondsey, and grandson Charles Sackett aged 11 and born in Camberwell, Surrey.9
In 1891 Henry's widow Martha was living at 70 Upper Grange Road, Bermondsey, SurreyG, and was recorded in the census as Martha Sackett, head of household, a widow, infirm, aged 74, and born in Bermondsey. Living with her was her unmarried grandson Charles Sackett, aged 21.10
