Sarah Sackett, daughter of Jeremiah Sackett and Sarah Hodgeman, was born in St Lawrence in Thanet, KentG, on 24 April 18011 and baptized at St Lawrence in ThanetG on 24 May 1801.1 She died aged 62 in Ramsgate, KentG, on 11 October 1863.2,3 She married at St Lawrence in ThanetG on 28 February 1826, Stephen Bayly, a grocer.4,5 He was born in Folkestone, KentG, in about 1800.6
Stephen and Sarah moved from Ramsgate to Eastry in the late 1830s or 1840 and established a grocery business there.
In 1841 Sarah was living at Church Street, Eastry, KentG, in the household of her husband Stephen Bayly, 40, a grocer, and was recorded in the census as Sarah Bayly, aged 35 and born in Kent. Living with them were their children, Stephen, 10, Emma, 3, and Eliza, aged one month.7
In 1851 she was living at Church Street, EastryG, in the household of her husband Stephen, 51, a grocer, and was recorded as Sarah Bayly, aged 49 and born in Ramsgate. Living with them were their children, Sarah, 21, Emma, 13, Eliza, 9, and Louisa, aged six. Also in the household were two female servants and one male grocer's assistant.8
