Mary Catherine Sackett, daughter of Vincent Andrews Sackett and Mary Browning, was baptized at St Peter in Thanet, Kent^G, on 14 August 1825.¹ Mary had a daughter, Julia Catherine Cook Sackett, by Edward Cook, a farmer, in 1845. She married in Thanet^G in 1858, George Taylor, a market gardener.² George was born in St Lawrence in Thanet, Kent^G, about 1822.³
     In 1851 Mary was living in the Hamlet of Northwood, St Peter's, Thanet, Kent^G, in the household of her parents Vincent and Mary, and was recorded in the census as Mary Sackett, unmarried, aged 23 and born in St Peter's. Living with her was her five-year-old daughter Julia.⁴
     In 1861 she was living at Northwood, St Lawrence in Thanet, Kent^G, in the household of her husband George Taylor, a market gardener, and was recorded as Mary C Taylor, aged 35, and born in St Peter's. Living with George and Mary were her daughter Julia C Sackett, aged 15, their daughter Mary J M Taylor, aged one, and their son not yet named [later named George], aged three days.⁵

Vincent Sackett, son of Vincent Andrews Sackett and Elizabeth Cock, was born in St Peter in Thanet, Kent^G, about 1837.
     In 1851 Vincent was living in the Hamlet of Northwood, St Peter's, Thanet, Kent^G, and was recorded in the census as Vincent Sackett, a scholar, aged 13 and born in St Peter's, the son of Vincent A Sackett.¹

Barzillai Sackett, yeoman of St Lawrence in Thanet, son of Vincent Andrews Sackett and Elizabeth Cock, was born in St Peter in Thanet, Kent^G, in 1844¹ and baptized at St Peter in Thanet^G on 12 May 1844.¹ He died aged 74 at home at East Northdown Farm, Margate^G, on 7 September 1918.^2,3 He married at Zion Chapel, Margate, Kent^G, in 1866, Sarah Walker Harlow, daughter of Edward Harlow and Ann Harlow.⁴ Sarah was born in Minster, Kent^G, in 1842.⁵ She died aged 80 at home at Kingston House, Approach Road, Margate^G, on 7 November 1922.^6,3
     In 1851 Barzillai was living in the Hamlet of Northwood, St Peter's, Thanet, Kent^G, and was recorded in the census as Barzillai Sackett, a scholar, aged six and born in St Peter's, the son of Vincent A Sackett.⁷
     In 1861 he was living at Northwood, St Peter's, Kent^G, in the household of his father Vincent Sackett and mother Elizabeth Cock, and was recorded as "Bucilis" Cox, niece [of head of household Vincent Sackett], a servant, aged 17 and born in Canterbury.⁸ [It is assumed that this entry refers to Barzillai on the basis that it would be expected that he would be found in this household. It would appear that the enumerator gave up on the name and assumed that the individual was a female servant. If the record refers to some other relation of Elizabeth, then Barzillai's record remains not found.]
     In 1871 he was living at 4 Northwood Lane, St Lawrence in Thanet, Kent^G, and was recorded as Barzilla Sackett, a farmer of 25 acres employing one man, head of household, married, aged 27 and born in St Lawrence. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 28 and born in Minster, Kent, and their children, Vincent, 3, and Arthur, aged one.⁵
     In 1881 he was living at 1 Northwood, St Lawrence in Thanet, Kent^G, and was recorded as Barzilla Sackett, a farmer of 34 acres employing three labourers, head of household, married, aged 37 and born in St Lawrence. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 38 and born in Minster, Kent, and their children, Vincent, 13, Arthur, 11, Rose, 8, Florence, 7, and Emily, aged four.⁹
     Barzillai was named as a beneficiary in his father's will made in Northwood^G on 21 July 1883. He was appointed an executor and co-trustee of the will, with his niece Julia's husband Charles Giles. Barzillai was to inherit the residue of the estate, but the detail of the will, in which Vincent left two cottages and lands to his grandchildren, suggests that all his realty was thus accounted for. Rosemary Quested, Barzillai's great-granddaughter, in her book The Isle of Thanet Farming Community suggests that he would already have inherited land from his father. She writes that "Bar Sackett founded his fortunes on the broccoli. Having inherited only 15 acres from his father, he was occupying 34 acres ... by 1881."¹⁰
     In 1891 he was living at West Northdown, Margate, Kent^G, and was recorded as Barzillai Sackett, a farmer (master), head of household, married, aged 47, and born in Ramsgate. Living with him were his wife Sarah, aged 48, and born in Minster, and their children, Vincent (23), Florrie (17), and Ada (14.)¹¹
     In 1899 Barzillai was a farmer at Yorkshire Farm, Northdown^G.¹²
     In 1901 he was living at East Northdown Farm, Northdown, St Johns, Margate, Kent^G, and was recorded as Barzillai Sackett, head of household, a farmer (employer), aged 57 and born in St Peter's, Kent. The other members of his household were his wife Sarah, aged 58 and born in Minster, Kent, his unmarried son Arthur, aged 32, his unmarried daughter, Ada, aged 23, and a female general domestic servant.¹³
     In 1911 he was living at East Northdown, Margate, Kent^G, and was recorded as Barzillai Sackett, a farmer, head of household, aged 65 and born in St Peter's. Living with him were his wife, Sarah, 68, and their unmarried children, Arthur, 40, and Ada, 28 [actually 34]. There was also a female servant in the household.¹⁴
     Barzillai left a will which was proved in London^G on 13 December 1918 by his widow Sarah. His estate was valued at £32,464.¹⁵
     In 1921 Barzillai's widow Sarah, aged 76, was living with their unmarried daughter Emily at 25 Approach Road, Margate^G. There was also a female domestic servant in the household.¹⁶
     Barzillai's widow Sarah left a will which was proved on 6 January 1923 by their daughter Rosie. Her estate was valued at £697.¹⁷
