Sophia Sackett

Sophia Sackett, daughter of Thomas Sackett and Mary Wilkinson, was born in Rotherhithe, SurreyG, on 21 June 17651 and baptized at St Mary the Virgin, RotherhitheG, on 14 July 1765.1 She died unmarried aged 65 and was buried at Bunhill Fields, LondonG, on 26 August 1830.2
Administration of Sophia's estate was granted on 10 September 1830 to her nephew George Samuel Sackett. Sophia's only surviving family member, and therefore entitled to her estate, was her brother George who was registered as a lunatic. George's wife, also Sophia, consented to the arrangement whereby their son was made administrator of the estate "for the use and benefit of the said George Sackett during his lunacy."3

George Sackett

George Sackett, Thames waterman, son of Thomas Sackett and Mary Wilkinson, was born in Bermondsey, SurreyG, on 6 March 1772 and baptized at St Mary Magdalen, BermondseyG, on 5 April 1772.1,2 He died aged 70 in Bethnal Green, MiddlesexG,3 and was buried at Bunhill Fields, LondonG, on 15 June 1842.4 He married Sophia ___. She died aged 65 in Lewisham, KentG, in 1841.5
George was bound on 20 April 1786 as an apprentice waterman to John Bogg. He gained his freedom on 23 October 1794.6
George, as the only surviving family member, was named as sole beneficiary of his sister Sophia's estate in letters of administration granted on 10 September 1830. In 1841 George's wife Sophia was living at Park End Cottage, Kidbrooke, KentG, and was recorded in the census as Sophia Sackett, of independent means, aged 60+. Her daughters, Marianne, 25+, and Ann, 20+, both schoolmistresses, were living with her.7
