"His [Tallmadge's] name does not appear in the list of officers but it seems certain that from the outset he acted as "clerk or orderly sergeant" of Captain Sackett's First Company."

Ordered that Mr Parks Wait upon his Excellency the Governor With Copies of the Resolutions of this Sinnate, of Yesterday, and of the aforegoing Message of the Concurrance of the Honourable the House of assembly thereto.

"The Genl has the pleasure to Inform the Brigade that the Legeslature of the State of N. York from a Conscienciousness of the Meritoryous Se[r]vice of the officers and men Raised under their Directions have passed The Following Concurrent Resolution.

Resolved,
if the Honnourable house of Assembly Concur here in that his Excellency the Governor be Requested to Right to Brigr Genl James Clinton Desiring him to assure the offrs and soldiers of the Troops of this state in the Service of the United States that the Leagislature have a high sence of ther services. That they have paid Due attention to their Memorial and that they are now Devising ways and Means to provide them with Cloathing and Necessaries and to make them a suitable Compensation at the Conclusion of the war. Ordered that Mr Ward Carry a Coppy of the aforesaide Resolution to the Honourl hous of Assemble. Feby 16th A Message from the Honl the house of Assemble by Mr Sackett & Mr Hopkins was received with A Resolution of the Concurrance of that Honnourable house with the Senitt in which this Resolution of Yesterday that his Excellency the Governor be Requested to Right to Brigr Genl James Clinton Desiring him to Assure the officers and soldiers of the Troops of this State in service of the United States That the Legislature have a high sence of their services and are Devising Means to make a sutiable Provision for them.
