Gov. William Beach Lawrence, son of Isaac Lawrence and Cornelia Beach, was born in New York CityG on 23 October 1800.1 He died aged 80 in New York CityG on 26 March 18812 and was buried at the Lawrence family cemetery, near Newtown, Long IslandG.2 He married at Grace Church, New York CityG, on 19 May 1821, Esther Rogers Gracie, daughter of Archibald Gracie.3
     In 1850 William was living in Newport, Rhode IslandG, and was recorded in the census as William B Lawrence, aged 49 and born in New York. His occupation was recorded as "none", and the value of his real estate was $15,000. Living with him were his wife Esther Lawrence, 47, and their children, Isaac, 21, Gratia, 16, Esther, 18, Gallatin, 14, Cornelia, 11, and James, aged six. Also in the household were three male and three female servants.4
