Mary Sue Van Gorden, daughter of Howell Louis Van Gorden and Katharyn Aurelia Sackett, was born in Albion, Calhoun County, MichiganG, on 23 July 1933.1 She died aged 90 at Duck Lake, Volusia County, FloridaG, on 15 July 2024.1 She married in AlbionG on 23 June 1957, Richard Bruce Davis, son of Dr Arthur G Davis.1

Mary S Davis of Albion, Mi and Bradenton, Fl passed away on July 15, 2024 at the age of 90 at her home on Duck Lake surrounded by her family. She was born on July 23, 1933 in Albion to Howell and Katharyn (Sackett) VanGorden .
Mary graduated from Albion Public Schools in 1951 and in 1955 from Albion College with a Bachelor's Degree in Education.
On June 23, 1957, she married Richard Davis in Albion and they had recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
Mary taught school briefly in Battle Creek before joining Albion Public Schools where she taught at Austin, Dalrymple and Harrington Schools before retiring in 1995.
She was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, ELT Club, Eastern Star, and was active in Camp Fire Girls. She was also a member of the Albion Historical Society, Duck Lake Country Club and Albion Elks Lodge.
Mary and Richard belong to St. James Episcopal Church in Albion.
Spending her winters in Bradenton, Fl she was a volunteer with Manatee Religious Services and a member of the Pittsburgh Pirate Boosters.
Mary is predeceased by her parents, sisters Patricia Cleveland, Dortha Siler, Kathy Morley and a brother Howell. Also, her in-laws, Dr. Arthur G and Ethel (Heibein) Davis.
She is survived by her husband, a son Richard, daughters Carol McKinney and Barbara (Tom) Stevens all of Bradenton, FL along with grandchildren, Derek (Andrea) McKinney and his daughter Ashley, Matthew McKinney and his daughter Desirae, Lauren (Tim Tanner) Konkle and her daughter Madelynn, Christopher (Gina) Sullivan and his children Zachary, Briana and Austin, Andrew (Lora) Stevens and his children Andrew and Cora, Courtney (Randy) Betz and her children Brayden, Brooklynn and Delaney, Blake (Larissa) Sullivan and his children Brexton and Lennox.
Cremation has taken place and there are no services planned at this time.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. James Episcopal Church or the charity of choice.

Davis-Vangorden
Albion—Given in marriage by her brother-in-law, Maj. Robert E. Cleveland of Falls Church, Va., Miss Mary Suzanne Vangorden became the bride of Richard Bruce Davis in a ceremony on Sunday, June 23, at the Methodist Church of Albion. The Rev. John Tennant officiated at the double ring service at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.
The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Howell L. Vangorden and the late Mr. Vangorden, and is a graduate of Washington Gardner High School. She attended Albion College, being affiliated with Delta Gamma sorority, and for two years was a teacher in the Battle Creek public schools.
For her wedding she wore a floor-length gown of crystal white taffeta trimmed with alencon lace. A princess bonnet of pearl embroidered lace and silk held the bride's three-tiered illusion veil, and she carried a cascade bouquet of white roses.
Mrs. George B. Morley of Mount Pleasant, sister of the bride, attended her as matron of honor. Mrs. Cleveland and Mrs. M. Daniel Siler of Lansing, also sisters, Miss Jan Nugent of Birmingham and Miss Jennie Oakley were the bridesmaids. Linda Cleveland, niece of the bride, and Robert Siler, her nephew, were the flowergirl and ringbearer.
The Rev. Kenneth Davis of Grand Rapids, brother of the groom, served as his best man. Mr. Morley, Mr. Siler, Pfc. Allen Gauss of Ft. Riley, Kan., Jerry Sandusky, Charles Christner and Donald Morgan were the ushers.
A reception was held in the Greenbrier Room at Parker Inn. Assisting in the hospitality were Mrs. Kenneth Davis, Miss Edna Pederson, Miss Lorraine Kracko, Mrs. William Hurdelbrink, Mrs. Donald Rockey, Mrs. Jerry Sandusky, Mrs. Jack Weston and Mrs. Lawrence Shouldice, the latter being from Battle Creek.
After a honeymoon trip to Manistique Lake Mr. and Mrs. Davis are now at home at 519 Michigan ave. The groom, who is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur G. Davis, attended Michigan State University and is employed at Vaughn's Men's store.
