John Sackett, son of Edward Sackett and Louisa Pegden, was born in Greenwich, KentG, in 1854.1 He died aged 63 in East Wickham, KentG, on 4 August 19172,3 and was buried at Woolwich Cemetery, GreenwichG, on 9 August 1917.4 He married in Woolwich, KentG, in 1887, Alice Matilda Coleman.5,6,7 She was born in Sheerness, KentG, in about 1860.7,8 She died aged 76 in GreenwichG on 26 January 19369 and was buried at Woolwich Cemetery, GreenwichG, on 31 January 1936.10
     In 1871 John was living at 31 & 32 Hare Street, Woolwich, KentG, in the household of his parents Edward and Louisa, and was recorded in the census as John Sackett, a shop man, aged 16, and born in Woolwich.11
     In 1881 he was living at 31 & 32 Hare Street, Woolwich, KentG, in the household of his widowed father Edward, an ironmonger, and was recorded as John Sackett, assistant to ironmonger, unmarried, aged 24 and born in Woolwich.12
     In 1891 he was living at 17 Hare Street, WoolwichG, and was recorded as John Sackett, an ironmonger, head of household, aged 37. Living with him were his wife Alice, 29, and their son, John, aged two.13
     On 5 April 1897, John became the sole proprietor of the ironmongery business which he had previously owned in partnership with his brother Edward, following Edward's retirement.14
     In 1901 he was living at 17 & 19 Hare Street, Woolwich, LondonG, and was recorded as John Sackett, an ironmonger (employer), head of household, married, aged 47, and born in Woolwich. Living with him were his wife, Alice, aged 39, and born in Sheerness, Kent, and their sons, John, 11, and Victor, aged six.15
     In 1911 he was living at 17 & 19 Hare Street, WoolwichG, and was recorded as John Sackett, an ironmonger, head of household, aged 57. Living with him were his wife Alice, 49, and their sons, John, 22, and Victor, aged 16.16
     John left a will which was proved on 8 October 1917. His estate was valued at £3,383.17
     In 1921 John's widow Alice was living at 17 & 19, Hare Street, WoolwichG, and was recorded in the census as Alice Sackett, a widow, head of household, aged 58. Her son Victor, 27, was living with her.18
