Rev Lester M Sackett

Rev Lester M Sackett, Methodist minister, son of Lieutenant Martin Sacket and Miriam Bancroft, was born in Plymouth, Chenango County, New York State^G, on 29 November 1822.^1,2 He died aged 37 in Chenango County^G on 17 October 1860¹ and was buried at South Plymouth Cemetery, Chenango County^G.³ He married in January 1854, Calphurnia Lucinda Garrett, daughter of Ulricus Garrett and Lucinda Murdock.¹ Calphurnia was born in Madison County, New York State^G, on 13 September 1834.^4,5 After Lester's death, Calphurnia married second, Elijah Buell, in 1871, and third, Charles W Dain, in 1902. She died aged 80 in Norwich, Chenango County^G, on 22 July 1915.^5,6
     In 1850 Lester was living in Hebron, McHenry County, Illinois^G, in the household of his sister Diana and brother-in-law William Tower, and was recorded in the census as Lester Sacket, a farmer, aged 27 and born in New York.⁷
     In 1855 he was living in Plymouth^G and was recorded as Lester Sackett, a farmer, aged 32. His wife Calphurnia, 21, was living with him.⁸
     In 1860 he was living in North Norwich, Chenango County^G, and was recorded as Lester M Sackett, a Methodist Episcopal clergyman, aged 37. His wife Calphurnia, 26, was living with him. There was also a six-year-old girl, Harriett Potter, in the household.⁹
     Lester made his will in North Norwich, Chenango County^G, on 9 October 1860. He left the use of his estate to his wife Calphurnia during her widowhood, the residue of estate thereafter to go to the Methodist Episcopal Church. The will was proved on 27 November 1860.
