Elias Palmer, shipwright, of Bristol, was born in Bedminster, Bristol, SomersetG, about 1793.1 His parents have not been identified. He married in BristolG on 23 June 1823, Frances Clements.2
In 1841 Elias was living at 21 East Street, BedminsterG, and was recorded in the census as Elias Palmer, a shipwright, aged 50 [rounded down] and born in Somerset. Living with him were his sons, Elias, 15, William Palmer, 13, Charles, 10, George Palmer, 8, and Thomas, aged six.3
In 1851 he was living at East Street, BedminsterG, in the household of Elizabeth Brice, a sailor's wife, and her family, and was recorded as Elias Palmer, a shipwright, a widower aged 57 and born in Bedminster. Living with him was his son George, aged 18.4

Ernest Alfred Palmer, publican, of London and Bristol, son of George Palmer and Frances H Watson, was born in Hampstead, LondonG, in 1871.1 He married first at All Souls Church, Hampstead, LondonG, on 25 December 1893, Emily Olive Freeman, daughter of John Freeman and Olive Stokes.2,3 Emily died in 1899. He married second in BristolG in 1906, Caroline Esther Pobjoy, daughter of Edward Pobjoy and Mary Ann ___.4 Caroline was born in Bedminster, SomersetG, in 1879.5,6
In 1881 Ernest was living at 2 Loudoun Road Mews, HampsteadG, in the household of his parents George and Frances, and was recorded in the census as Ernest Palmer, a scholar, aged nine and born in Hampstead.7
In 1901 he was living at 66 Park Row, Bristol, GloucestershireG, and was recorded as Ernest Alfd Palmer, a licensed retailer, head of household, a widower, aged 29 and born in London. Living with him were his daughter, Winnie, aged five, and his sister, Lilly, aged 31. Also in the household were Caroline Pobjoy, 21, who was to become his second wife, and a 13-year-old female general servant.8
